Who is William Onyeabor?

Post by Mexicola »

Listening to this podcast from the Barbican, as it features a piece on the Nils Frahm gig coming up in October.

However, the story around William Onyeabor (who I'd not heard of before) is incredible!! Check it out. This guy makes the likes of BOC and Jandek seem like media whores by comparison.

Anyone know anything about his music? Liking what I hear so far. African Funk with amazing electronica build into it in places.

Check it out.

Breaking a personal rule and bumping like a bastard because, frankly, this is all I've been playing tonight and I'm currently grooving out like a funky mofo. Seriously, anything that can make me bust out my best Dad-dance moves HAS to be worthy of your time.

Check this out and cut some rug baby.

Hey thanks for bringing attention to this artist. I have a compilation with a track of his on it and now checking him out some more.

Nice thread! I am working on something similar.

Haven't had time to really layer in field recordings and more synths. Def Larry Levan disco inspired "love his production". I can't wait to finish this one and this thread inspired me. Great find mexi!

Also guys, if you like William, check out Ojeda Penn. Their synth work is lovely.
