I too signed up as Resistance - but after seeing that almost 80% of the players in my area were Resistance I switched over to balance the game (and I also like the color green more...). Surprisingly Enlightened has more girls haha
I thought the choice of faction was final?
One faction change is allowed per player apparently https://support.google.com/ingress/answer/2892252?hl=en

Necroing this thread because I just started playing this again after some friends of mine got into it and dragged me back in. Discovered I had a whole bunch of weaponry I hadn't used the first time round and spend a couple of days turning everything within a 5 mile radius blue. It's fun :)

Anyone here still playing it?

Yeah I play it every now and again, just had a load of portals accepted at the university I work at :) Also I got my platinum guardian badge :-D That one is a bitch to get unless you live or find one somewhere really remote.. I've been recharging it for 197 days now lol.

Nearly lvl 9. What level you at dude?

Maybe at dorset we exchange portal keys and try to make a huge combo field across the country ;-)

Shit!! I sound like a fecking geek.

About half way through 5 at the moment. Platinum anything is good going! We've got some super keen players over here, nothing stays up for long. :)

Lucky, where im based its the other way around, we have super keen players but we are really outnumbered. Still its fun when they create massive fields covering our town or even half the county; I like to destroy them :-D

Yep. Im working on the theory that once ive levelled im going to find two easily defensible clusters of blue either side of a green field hub, flip it with an Ada to kill all the fields, then connect the two blue hubs to stick a blue link right through the middle of it. Bonus points if the blue hubs are far enough away to be annoying to get to. Weve got the solent turning a 5 minute as the crow flies distance into a half hour drive. And thats before you think about using the isle of wight. Im actually evil :)

It's a good time to be playing it, AP and hack rewards doubled till the end of the month and depending what level you are by the end of November you get a badge

(Bronze Medal: Level 3 - Level 8
Silver Medal: Level 9 - Level 12
Gold Medal: Level 13 & 14
Platinum Medal: Level 15)

So I'm racing for platinum with my wife.

Just come back from Vilnius where they were holding one of the anomaly events. These things run every quarter and are worth getting involved in if they're nearby (or you're keen!) cos they're loads of fun. Several hundred players on both sides hitting a city, the game running about as fast as it's possible to run, and special capture-the-flag like games overlaid on top of the usual. Big player-organised strategy with players put into teams, secret plans, radio being used to move the teams around like wargaming. Then everybody goes to the pub. :)

Getting discouraged a week or so in. Linking and creating fields seems hit and miss. I'm not crossing pathways etc, yet sometimes it lets me link things miles away, other times I can't link portals a few hundred metres apart. It point blank refuses to let me create fields.

Any tips?!?

The board was borked when I answered this offline but the 2 main link rules are

1. No links can cross
2. You can't link FROM a portal under a field (but you can link TO a portal under a field, from one of the corners

Additionally:
3. Both target and source portals must be your team's colour, and have all 8 resonators
4. You must have a key to the target portal to link to it, and linking consumes a key
5. Links have range based on the portal level, 160m at level 1, over 1k for level 2 and so on but range can be extended with linkamps

It's a lot easier to experiment with linking in cities where the portals are close together. You can use the intel map ( http://ingress.com/intel ) to plan links and see what's going on around you but mainly on desktop as the mobile site is slow and buggy to the point of unusable at times.

In addition to double AP till the end of the month, they've now made it so if you glyph hack a portal (long press hack) and select "request key" (draw the little up arrow ^ glyph) while the screen says "command channel open", you now get 0-3 keys per hack, which is great for doing fields.

Best way to play the game is to contact other players, meet up and go together. Unlike Pokémon GO, there's a chat!
Although, Ingress players mostly use Telegram for communications, since in-game COMM is compromised to spies from the other team :)
And yeah, the rules of linking are pretty confusing when you start, but they only make it more interesting.

I know the posts above pretty much cover everything but I wrote the below reply when twoism was broken the other day so im postng it anyway :-)

Does the source portal and target portal both have full sets of resonators? Distance certainly isn't an issue unless perhaps you are hundreds of miles away.

I know that sometimes it can be a bit buggy and do such things when there is really poor mobile signal too. For example, you install a resonator and it either takes forever to appear or it doesn't at all.

To be 100% sure there are no blocking links it can be useful to check the intel map if you dont already know about it? https://www.ingress.com/intel You can also use it to plan missions etc.
