Earlier Autechre was more melodic, like listen to Amber sometime. After that they starting going to into the very abstract territory they are better known for today. I've heard people refer to Amber as the last "normal" album Autechre made :)

The comparison to Autechre isn't that absurd. Strip away the melodies, and some of the beats are similar.

Anyway, regardless of if he has heard them or not, I think it brings up a good point: BOC's unreleased stuff probably isn't released because it's not good enough to be released. I would still like to hear it, though. :)

Those people should pull out their earplugs! Autechre made a lot more melodic tunes than "Amber" alone. :P

Agreed. And I would even say that "Basefree" reminds me more of Aphex than AE. But I can see why an inexperienced listener would make that mistake. I remember getting corrected on this board about that very issue when I first got into Autechre, but now I could spot the difference between AE and BoC from a million miles away.

WTF? How is Pete anything like Telephasic? For the record, "Pete Standing Alone" was the first track that got my attention with BoC.

It does seem like a lazy, off-the-cuff review. But I've become very suspicious of critical reviews lately, partly because both "The Life Aquatic" and "The Campfire Headphase" received lukewarm reviews and both of those are favorities of mine.

Screw the critics.
Disavowed, was your father a milkman? I think we might be brothers.
