Yes! I listened to it on lucy pretty recently... just reinforced its true epicness. The album really focuses on groove and the songs just get stuck in my head, in the best way possible. And it's so dark and I love it.

And the way the album plays out from start to finish... it just ends on such an intense note.

Nearly started a new thread for these guys, but anyone liking QOTSA should SERIOUSLY be checking out Royal Blood. Can't recall the last time a debut album smacked me between the eyes so hard.

Absolutely, positively monstrous!!! Black Sabbath sized riffage.

I know! And all coming out of a single bass guitar (and a smattering of pedals). :D

It's a straight-up great rock/pop record. Definitely hearing the QOTSA influence in there too.

First saw QOTSA just after they released the first album. True to form Olivieri was arrested for getting in something of a fracas with now-defunct UK scamps Terrorvision. A few years later I had the pleasure of seeing Mr Olivieri play a solo acoustic set in support of the incredible Mark Lanegan. The only time I've ever seen somebody terrify an audience playing a nylon strung acoustic (miked, natch) while SCREAMING so hard the veins in his neck looked like they were going to burst. Incredible performance.

As for Kyuss, 'Blues For The Red Sun' is about as perfect a stoner-rock album as you'll ever hear.
Im bringing this post back from the dead mexicola for this reason - When I first joined twoism I saw your name and was like "yep, sweet".

I feel you would appreciate this muchly -

I am a huge Qotsa and Kyuss fan. Pretty much same level as BOC i guess. I have seen them like 29 times live (seriously). The first time for me was their Rated R tour in Australia. To this day one of the best live music performances i have ever witnessed. Have met nick a few times as he was in band here down under for a while after he finished up with queens. I have seen his acoustic stuff down here a few times now, and veins looked like they were gonna explode and do some damage hey!

self titled, in my opinion, is a masterpiece. Hands down. I can listen to it everyday and just not be sick of it. Walkin on the sidewalks is that song i want playing when I walk in a room full of people.

And Kyuss is a whole other subject - I was in a Kyuss cover band for a few years a while back - for shits and giggles. We were called Primitive High. haha.

Sorry to dump my fanboy load everywhere, but i feel better now.

I should post some guitar tutorials/covers for anyone who wants to learn a Qotsa or Kyuss song on geetar? haha I spent many years growing up in a dark room learning to play most of them. It would be fun!
