Great Quietus article.

Seems a strange move to me - yes, they got paid by Apple, yes they'll expect to sell a zillion gig tickets, but does anyone else find it difficult to get excited about an album that just *appeared* in your library? Call me old fashioned...

I'm going to take this excuse to tell my favourite U2 story...

Bono wrote to Captain Beefheart explaining that he was a huge fan and would love to collaborate. The Captain's response...

"Dear Bongo, no."

Bongo.

Never fails to make me smile.

it's funny the thing with Captain Beefheart. in another brief encounter with real talent the band had a meeting with Conny Plank hoping he would produce for them, Conny needed just a few minutes in their company before stating "I cannot work with this singer" and did a runner.

Passengers Original Soundtracks 1 is underrated though and could have been a minor cult classic if the band had just called it a day back then and Bono wasn't such a divisive figure or twat if you like.

can't think of a huge band who piss so many people off, it's remarkable really.

Bono.
Even the word is a anagram of his true Irish surname.

If you own an iphone or whatever, you have no choice, this crappy music by U2 (shittest band ever) will be automatically added to your itunes library. It isnt something you opt into, they just sneak it on to your device whether you like it or not.

It is their campaign to make it the biggest album release ever.. WTF?

What a load of bollocks!!! Fuck U2 and Apple too.

k i don't like U2 anymore either. they were cool in high school 84'.
BUT the tunes ARE NOT ON YOUR PHONE....they are in the cloud. you have to actually download them if you want them. so fucking RELAX. they're there if you want them...which you obviously do not.

on a cool note...
back in the day i used to rip my CDs at 128kbps to save space [as a 50g external HD was EXPENSIVE]...unfortunately i sold those CDs to Amoeba....BUT...if you get an icloud storage account you get something i find very cool.

so [holy shit i just checked the new pricing...i have way more space now] anyways you only got something like 200G for $20. BUT, heres the cool part, if the tunes you are uploading to iCloud already exist...you don't upload them. you already paid for those tunes. and they exist in iCloud already. so that space does not get used. you just get a linked to those tracks. the BONUS is...the old tracks i stupidly ripped at 128kbps are now available to me at 320kbps. and i can DL them to replace my old shitty rips.

Well.... being that the golden ratio can be found pretty much in all of physical nature (which by physical nature I feel clouds are included) I am not surprised.

I remember reading an article years back about rumours that apple had used golden ratio and fibonacci in the design of their logo. I think i read one that debunked it too, but there are debunkers for debunkers these days.

If apple are doing this with U2 does that mean apple think that U2 is the most user accessible music for the typical iPhone customer? I say yes. If i put headphones in on the bus, and scrolled through my music on iTunes and saw U2 there and i did not ask for it i would go to the apple store closest to me and throw up on it.

I have to be glad that Apple are letting me decide if i want the song or not as opposed to non-consensually fucking me with it. Because U2 in my ears is like that - it's really non-consensual and causes mild discomfort.

Haha.

What generally annoys the hell out of me is whenever people discuss "the good U2 albums" and include that one from 2000-ish as being "the last U2 triumph" or some bullshit. I don't know what it's called, but it has that overplayed pop song Walk On which juxtaposed with how U2 acts pretty much demonstrates the biggest issue.

What annoys me more is when I hear that same opinion from some preachy Irish guy who goes on to declare why U2 are "traitors to Ireland" with said opinion about the fucking 2000-ish album.

That's just one YouTube comment page, too.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

"How to remove the U2 album from an itunes account" is currently the top support topic apple are dealing with.

Looks like they have created a tool for people to remove it haha http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-29208540

Its funny how they say "A few customers" want to remove it from their itunes accounts lol, more like millions.

Ah, yes, All That You Can Leave Behind a Really Long Unwieldy Title Because U2 Are Too Big and Important for Short Album Titles. I hate that record exactly for that reason: somehow it was hailed as a "return to their roots". That's sort of when I realised the music industry can make up any nonsense they want and force it down people's throats until they just accept it. I kept wondering, what "roots" exactly? I don't remember cheesy synth bleep-a-dee-bloops and corny Backstreet Boys-ish ballads on Boy.

I don't know what it's called, but it has that overplayed pop song Walk On which juxtaposed with how U2 acts pretty much demonstrates the biggest issue.

I find Elevation even more vomit inducingly disgusting than that one.
