Artists that sound like...

Post by Yellow Records »

I've been looking for more artists that have a similar sound to that of the likes of:

Oneohtrix Point Never
Tim Hecker
Ben Frost
Lawrence English
Sad City
Heathered Pearls
Vermont
Terry Riley
The Caretaker
Cyclobe
Coil

I've recently gotten into these artists and their work is amazing. I've been craving a similar sound to all of the above. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also I feel that this thread could be used as an open kind of thread for the same issue.

that's a vast array of artists, you've got stuff ranging from ambient and drone to plunderphonics, even a but of industrial.

what are you exactly trying to get here, music which captures a lost sense of memory? Something which harkens back to an age, but you don't know what age?

YOU GOT IT

That's the exact description of the type of music I'm looking for. Music of forgotten ages, of ironic darkness, and of lore unheard...

I mean I probably are moving through styles you're not necessarily a fan of, but you can't blame me for at least trying.
Here are some records I feel fit into that lost memory camp.

Lewis - L'Amour (
Isao Tomita - Snowflakes Are Dancing (
Jessica Pratt - Jessica Pratt (
Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill (
Leon Vynehall - Music for the Uninvited (

Also want to add another record here, something which I've been pretty enamoured with lately;

Itasca - Unmoored by the Wind

Beautifully eerie folk, which has the quality of Joanna Newsom, like as if beamed in from the 18th century. But it has this huge heft of sadness which brings it forward into a modern era.

It's this anomaly, doesn't really fit in any time.
