Agreed, I find all these demands completely baffling. I mean shit, it wasn't that long ago we got tomorrow's harvest.

My point- it's okay to WANT things. Especially after they haven't been released for 10 years since the 1st piece of info about them. Also, I think that they should at least go on their Twitter and say "lol sorry guys we don't feel like releasing the boxset". That would be 1000x better than just ignoring the topic altogether.

And my guess is that they can afford many things since they were able to spend 6 years travelling around the world, buying equipment and cataloguing their early stuff (!!!). And maybe all this aura of secrecy would be fine, but they went as far as to say that the glitch in one of the remastered Hi Scores songs is a legitimate part of the recording. It's not even a synth or an instrument, just a weird 0.5 sec sound which adds nothing to the song. Just admit your mistake, you guys!

MrMessiah wrote:TBH as much as I would love to spend a weekend going through whatever the BoC equivalent is, their tape archive or whatever, I'd far rather they held onto it till the right time. Unlike Aphex, who pretty much put this stuff out because it was "dead", never likely to surface in any other way and in his own words he'd "rather be working on new stuff", BoC are the kind of act where anything in that archive has a chance of being useful. Sample that turns up here? That's from over there. Unfinished track from their very early days? That's just become "New Seeds" (or whichever we agreed it was ;) )

Bro

BoC have spent A YEAR cataloguing all of their unreleased stuff. We've only heard Old Tunes and Boc Maxima so far. Talk about dead material...

And if they use their old songs on the new tracks, let's be honest here...that's just lazy. Maybe TH was just a scam? The album is from 20 years ago and they said "oh no, now we can only buy 9000000000000000001 pints of beer! We need more alive queens!" and released the album? I'm joking now, but it's possible!

2020k wrote:They designed an entire ARG, interacted with listeners and a fan community.
They released a new record, after much speculation.
They repressed all the old vinyl so we could all buy copies at a reasonable price.

They didn't interact with us personally, they said that most of that stuff was done by Warp
Ummm, yeah...
The first vinyl were ABSOLUTE SHIT if you remember

2020k wrote:That's a lot of creative work, as well as a ton of business work. We saw how long it took for them to get new pressings of Hi-Scores in our hands...

Skam's a bunch of dicks I guess lol

2020k wrote:Creativity doesn't run on a fan's schedule.

And then they go and make 100 songs for an album!

All I'm saying is, I want them to release some of their stuff once in a while because that would be cool and keep everyone interested, but that doesn't ruin the band's image in my eyes. The boxset stuff does, however

nick47 wrote:who is this aphex twin guy?

He's an autist who drives a tank

nick47 wrote:also, the BoCxset was ruined because all the old tracks being released online.

But...why does that matter? People were going apeshit over possible Old Tunes/Boc Maxima FLACs last year. People wanted the boxset and the feeling hasn't died down a bit.

nick47 wrote:and as stated above... we got the whole TH and the game leading up to it, and repressed vinyl (even though that was a major cock up) so we should be pretty goddamn happy for a while! Im sure an EP will be out there in the coming years, but dont expect anything and it will come as a happy surprise

Yeah the ARG stuff was cool, but it wasn't 100% their idea. Bands are expected to release albums, so I don't think that you guys should be praising them for that. And I am expecting an EP (maybe even an LP), I just don't know when it will come out lol
And even when the Hi Scores represses were being delayed by a year!!! all we got were some very rare updates from MDG (shoutout to him, he's great). Again, no "sorry" or "suck it your poor losers"

northernlite wrote:wow. my original post had lighthearted intentions. this is stupid guys, im not saying anyone owes us fans anything, i just think it would be beyond amazing if BoC decided to upload some old tracks on soundcloud... that's all. mods go ahead and close this if you want.

Why? This discussion is great

d e n wrote:Also, it was THIRTEEN years in between Drukqs and Syro!

But there was The Tuss, Analord and some concerts inbetween

Betterthanyourkids wrote:not demand tracks they've said many times they don't want to release

!!! can you point me to an interview or something where they said that?

portiss wrote: And saying they're afraid to release it, even if that is the case, so what? If you were a musician and you've made some top class albums, but don't really stand behind the tracks you've made in your teens, why the hell would you release it? Because some spoiled fanboys think they're entitled to it? I'd be really happy if they decide to release their old stuff. But they decide it. Not us.

I'd release that stuff because...since some of the tracks are on the net anyway, maybe I'd release it so that the fans could listen to the tracks in good quality.

How did it even go after such a long time of negotiations? "You guys, everything is ready, the presses are warmed up, just tell us when to do it all and we will!" "Cancel everything". Thanks for the subtle insults by the way

Peacock Tail wrote:I have to admit I'm quite frustrated about their unwillingness to officially release their older material.

They requested that fans should not obtain copies of their leaked material. And I respectfully obliged. Apart from Kiteracer II which I accidentally heard when someone else played it from youtube, I've never heard the likes of Buckie High or any other tunes that seem to met with such massive approval.

The first time I hear these tracks, I want to hear them in their full glory and as the lads intended.

But after so many years, will this patience ever be rewarded? I've done as they asked. Any chance of a little reciprocation?

:)

Check this guy out. You know what's it called? DEDICATION. Fuck this, if they ever plan on releasing the boxset, this guy and that other guy who hasn't heard OT/Boc Maxima yet should get it 1st 6 months ahead of us

jcnporter wrote:every last thing they've recorded.

Never said that

I missed this when I originally responded to you here. Lazy? Are you kidding me? Do you know anything about music production? I feel like you owe Boards, Scam and Warp an apology with all this nonsense. You have no idea what they have in store for us. Not a good look at all!

If only BoC knew of their obligation to communicate with fans via social media. I mean, everyone does it. Bowie, Dylan, RDJ...the list goes on.

Shouldn't we be happy that we have as much unreleased BoC as we do? We have three old albums, and Maxima. More would be great, but there's already more unreleased BoC stuff out there than there is for most other bands.

Ill just leave this here... (quote from an old thread)

mdg wrote:
As I said, I asked and BOC said they have never heard of those guys.
As for the buried early tapes, as they were, the band don't seem interested in acknowledging them now. This is particularly because they've been working on a new exhaustive collection of their favourite early work, for future release, which would take in parts of many previous compilations including the ones that have previously leaked.

Its been a while but I still see absolutely no reason why the context of the above quote would no longer be valid. Patience :)

To be honest I think I can live with the idea that in my lifetime I will hear these old tapes. I have the same philosophy with Godspeed You! Black Emperor's All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling. One day I will hear it.

Oh, and user48736353001 is keeping me pretty occupied right now too :D

Yea, agreed Mexi. Naj, don't leave man. If we can't all get along and keep each other in check every now and then that's a shame. I'll be the 1st to admit I have said things here that I deeply regret. That's just life man. I guess I still have hope and patience for some of the old material, new material, live shows, etc. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't then I'm still really grateful for everything BOC have given us man. I understand you are frustrated, and that's your right, but I also understand respect. With that said, don't go man, it's all love. We must stick together! Just do what you feel is the right thing to do, but don't run away. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions man, so stick around;-)

You're right, there's no way they'll top something like Shit Smothered. Bow down before RDJ!

It's embarrassing to hear someone say Old Tunes is garbage when it has a top 5 all time track (5.9.78) and if you put the best parts of those two tapes together, you'd have one all killer no filler release. Not to mention R35TT which imo is better than both of those overall, and is likely made up of the best parts of their known (but unreleased) early work. Noatak (from Hooper Bay) is great too. Old Tunes/R35TT is their odds and sods, you got it 10 years ago (under duress), RDJ gave his out a week ago (just because).

It's the internet, everyone wants more more more, pretty sad really.

"Old Tunes is garbage"

Old Tunes is overrated to me. Garbage or otherwise. Though I can relate to the possible feeling of not wanting to release something you're not content with, and they may not be, I am not BoC. Who knows what and why about the old tapes? (Seriously 5.9.78 cult, stop speaking for BoC.)
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

What is interesting is that after giving away all these tracks Aphex hasn't demystified his legacy one iota. In fact imo, it actually has increased his brilliance in my eyes. You would of thought such a vast amount of tracks would perhaps saturate/dumbed down his status, but not so. In fact he confirms how brilliant he is. You know the phrase 'more talent in his little finger...'

Autechre could do such a thing as upload their live sets (they are just sheer IDM genius). Dunno about BOC. I do think they may have something up their sleeves. I think they bide their time, but one day we will be rewarded.

There's no way that this is an appropriate request (cf. the title of the thread). BOC are not Aphex followers, and they shouldn't be expected to follow his or anyone's lead. More importantly, it's their right to determine when their work is ready to share: this isn't school, and they don't have deadlines for their projects. If your objection is that they have a deadline to retain you as a fan, I'm guessing that they're fine with whatever you choose. As far as I'm concerned, I find it a bit frustrating that we wait so long to hear from them, but I can understand their dedication to their quality control, and I have a lot of respect for them in this regard. I think it would be easier to release a bunch of stuff that's not up to their standards but that would meet a regular timeline. That's a quick way to lose appeal. The important thing to remember is that they're people, and that there are a hell of lot of other creative minds out there: I try to remind myself of this whenever I feel disappointed at extended silences from my favorite artists. In a way, it's a great opportunity to try to find other great works: the world's full of cool stuff!

I hate the title of this thread. It's rude and immature, and spelt out in capital letters for maximum insult. Bad vibes.
