How open minded are BOC fans?

Well you should go beyond Warp10 Classics because there's alot for you about the Warp label to discover!

Simple economics, my friend: that damn Xbox 360 won't pay for itself! I must say that I find it encouraging that most BoC fans are openminded. I think that might actually be a requirement for truly appreciating the music. Openmindedness not only for what the music is, but also where it takes the listener, as well as where it could take the listener in the future.

I think the great thing about electronic music is that it is all inclusive. DJ Shadow is great but he also got me into funk; DJ Food and Amon Tobin are great, they got me deeper into jazz; Boards of Canada and Radiohead are great (though not terribly similar) because they got me into folk, Warp records in general, and many, many other things

Come to think of it, I don't know if there is a genre that is not represented somewhere in the electronic spectrum.

I think Boards of Canada, especially in moments like Geogaddi, requires an adventurous listener, who probably isn't afraid to have 2pac, Autechre, Aaron Copeland, Stan Getz, and Led Zepplin in his CD changer all at the same time.

well, i'm rather openminded. into underground hiphop (a tribe called quest and dj premier are among my favs), progressive house (sasha&digweed!) , breaks, punk/rock etc. also like lots of downtempo stuff.

i actually hardly listen to any idm at all (note: i'm not saying that boc = idm).

I like almost EVERYTHING... Even 'Country' has it's moments of brilliance!

The only genre that consistently pisses me off is 'punk'; it just doesn't move me at all and seemingly takes only rudimentary knowledge of music and instrumentals to excel at. I'll acknowledge it's icons and innovators like 'The Ramones', 'Sex Pistols', 'The Clash' and 'Greenday', but I can't see myself ever wanting to sit through an entire album.

To go further I'd say I'm fairly repulsed by 'pop-punk'; those just-add-water, angsty, whining 20-somethings that can only play one cord on their guitars. Bands like 'Simple Plan', 'Good Charlotte' and 'Newfound Glory' make me want to throw the 14 year olds supporting the commercial music industry into a giant meat-grinder.

'Christian Rock' also pisses me off; bands like 'Evanescence', 'Creed', 'P.O.D' and 'AFX' (not the Aphex Twin moniker) can go to hell!

Other than that, I'll listen to and enjoy just about anything. Though I'm easy to entertain, I'm still very difficult to impress which is probably why my taste naturally gravitates toward the more challenging 'idm' (as much as I hate the term) side of electronica more than any other musical genre.

Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Philip Glass and Radiohead are my favorite musicians.

well, just because they hit big doesnt mean they're mainstream. ok, primo did some joints for mainstream artists but his style is still more underground than mainstream. atcq, well.. ofcourse they aint underground, but your average 50-cent kid today doesnt even know who they are. that's my point.

Irregardless of the fact that there are hundreds of notable punk bands other than the preceived innovators from the 1970s (The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Joy Division, early Talking Heads etc...) that doesn't change the fact that the genre doesn't excite me.

It's a given that the "so called punk from today" is not up to snuff with the classic stuff; it isn't about capturing and catalyzing the same rebelious, social climate of post-war Europe and America; bands like 'Simple Plan' and 'Good Charlotte' are about making money off of iggnorant 14 year olds who have just aquired a taste for the genre and glom onto the hooky, sugar-coated melodies and 1-dimensional subject matter.

I got your point, and yr right, most of the youngsters don't know those names and"50 cent"isn't rap, just plain commercial"in it for the money"shit.I was surprised some time ago about the movie"8 mile"from Curtis Hanson with Eminem, a great story and great acting from a rapper i never liked, but some tracks from that movie are really good like the movie! :)

Ever heard of"Wire" they started as an avant-garde punk band in the 70 ties, are known for they experiments in all kinds of music even electronics, (check the "Swim label") you will be surprised! :)

Well if yr on slsk, you can download it all from me, if yr not, start with there first album"Unknown Pleasures", there second "Closer" released after the suicide from Ian Curtis, (he was in the studio making it do)after that there's"Still" live tracks and unreleased tracks, there is also a very good compilation out if you can find it called:"Heart And Soul"(a 4 cd box)then you have it all exept one track that was on another label and on a 10" only and very limited, i have it!

Queens of the Stoneage, BoC (obviously), Tool, Primus, Aphex Twin, Metallica, Most Classical music in the vein of the "classics" among classic (Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) Some Jazz and Bebop, Audioslave, Explosions in the sky, ACDC, Nine Inch Nails, The white stripes.

To be honest after being introduced to BoC most my other musical interest have dwindled a bit in comparison, except maybe Queens of the Stoneage.

I can't stand most of the modern rock coming out lately, the context of most of it is all bitching and false, pretentious emotions about a break up that happened four years ago. It seems that most popular "rock" has become either feminine "emo" bands whining about how horrible their lives are, or screaming, incomprehensible bands with mindless, rather un-intelligable lyrics and dispositons. That is of course besides Queens of the Stoneage, who have always sounded refreshing, and original to me.

I think Hooker with a Penis is likely one of the best Tool tracks out there.

I recall watching NIN Closer video for the first time at seven or so, and from then on out I developed a bit of an early obsession which has peaked and dwindled, then peaked again over the course of my life.

Btw Derail, If you like NIN and Tool, I suggest you check out Queens of the Stoneage. I feel that they are the only other band capable of comparison to BoC is terms of how perfect some of their tracks sound, how natural and smooth most their melodies roll off in their songs.

I've only heard a few tracks here and there from QOTSA on the radio. They were ok, but did'nt blow me away, maybe thier other stuff is better.

I have an older sister who got me into Tool and Nin, so I can relate. I remember hearing the Downward Spiral for the first time in like 4th grade and I fucking loved it even back then and I still do! I saw them live in 96' (I'm Guessing) when they toured with David Bowie. And as for Tool, I believe they're comming out with a new album soon, can't fucking wait for that! Everything they've done is brilliant.
