And sadly I'm working, so I can't make it. Look forward to seeing some reports. Maybe next time....
Re: 3rd annual Twoism meet - Sat 11th July 2015 - 2. Inverie
Pay heed folks. This chap knows what he's on about. Oh, and that person to stand next to? The one getting eaten alive? Yeah, that'll be me. It's ALWAYS me!!Basepair wrote:I'm a few pages late to comment on midgies.....
But as someone from the west coast of Scotland I feel it needs reinforcing.
The midge is the prime beast of driving you mad. Do not underestimate her! I was out wild camping just last night on the west coast, and only a strong breeze kept the buggers at bay.
I cannot recommend enough a head net. jungle formula midgie spray, and/ or Avon skin so soft. If you're really prone to bites bring antihistamines.
Midgies don't like smoke, they do love dark clothing and CO2. Find someone who's being bitten alive and stand near them .youll be fine![]()
There's no reason for visitors to Scotland not to enjoy themselves, especially at a BOC meet.

Don't Drink Beer! Hahaha
No seriously,Mosquitoes/Midgies like Beer.
You are more likely to be bitten because drinking affects our sweat production and skin temperature.
Bummer eh!
Then again if you really want to avoid them, take along a pregnant woman with you, they will attract double the amount of midgies
as they are about a degree warmer than other people and exhale about 20% more Carbon Dioxide.
So the Midgie thinks Yum yum yum...

Hey everyone. I will be traveling with Cupz and his girlfriend and would like to know ahead of time if anyone will be planning to carpool and from what locations they'd be departing from to reach this meetup. We don't yet know where exactly we'll be staying post-Dorset and we might stay up north entirely and leave England immediately.
As far as I know, we've got our return from Edinburgh on bus where we'll be going back through London.
For the ride up, it'd be really helpful if anyone driving up from either the Dorset area or further towards London willing to take on some passengers (preferably as far as possible) would help us out. It'd make things a lot easier. However, we'll probably figure something out if not but I'm trying to formulate as much of an itinerary as possible while I still have the time, though this is a very "improvised" trip in Cupz' words.
All for the "more people, lighter the load" ideology and am absolutely willing to chip in if that'd cost us.

I endeavour to make this, but due to my pauper bank balance it is looking increasingly unlikely. I am gonna look into coaches etc to see if this is viable. I really, REALLY, wanna make it.

I would love to visit one of these events and meet likeminded people but would feel somewhat of an intrusion considering my extremely recent appearance on here. How welcome are friendly strangers? I would hate to gatecrash a beloved event, and would prefer to leave it for future years if it's more of an insider thing (which would, of course, be understandable). I've been an active member of other forums in the past and attended such meet ups and they've usually been some of the best times of my life! Either way, I hope the event goes wonderfully and you all bring back many a story to share!

Hey number six!
you've joined the gang, you have posted some really good stuff/comments, so why feel unwelcome?
everyone that will be there share one thing in common, a love of Boards Of Canada, that applies to you as well,
so don't feel you would be intruding, I was a lurker and only joined on new years day, I already feel like iv'e been here for years,
its a great community, enjoy...

Glad to hear it! If all goes well with bank balance i'll hope to be there. It does seem more friendly here than other communities i've experienced.noisy wrote:Hey number six!
