The whole of A Silver Mt. Zion's He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts Of Light Still Continue To Grace The Corner Of Our Rooms... makes me want to cry every time I listen to it.

Jesus, thank you so much for reminding me of Elliott Smith, what a great, great musician.Scyye wrote:

Yeah, that last chorus when the full harmony arrangement kicks in.
"if you get a feeling next time you see me, do me a favour and let me know".
Oh Elliott.

Re: Most beautiful song ever made
His arranging in general on that album is wild. Waltz #1, Oh Well Okay, I didn't Understand....
Re: Most beautiful song ever made
I'm positive I already posted here and I'm positive I said Sine Wave and A Warm Place but I left out Crystal Japan by David Bowie. Last song deviates more dramatically but contains a variation of the same simple four note progression at least three times in the track (the other two use it entirely). It's the oldest recorded rendition of it by a popular artist or band I know of and is probably my second favorite.
You know, it's like there's so many different beautiful melodies I've heard and many of them are complex. But this, as minimal as it is, trumps the rest. Begins at 50 seconds. I can't explain why.

Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

So beautiful - although I prefer it with Jason's vocal!
I could pick a bunch of stuff from their first two records for this thread: Angel Sigh, The Slide Song, Shine A Light.
On that note, everyone should check out the new Valet album - gorgeous, Kranky goodness - Listen to 'Nature' and 'Nothing'

Actually I'm not sure whether I prefer it with the vocal or not. It's when the strings come in that it really gets me. The Slide Song is sublime as well.Spirit Fingers wrote:jcnporter wrote:

This is just wonderful, truly wonderful. My Heroes.

Valleaux, that is certainly one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Amon Tobin used a piece of that in one of works:

Art of Noise - Moments of Love
Placing it in the context of when it was released, it's pretty ground breaking.. Plus is has this really enchanting/curious sound to it which I really like. I actually only really come across this song recently, Art of Noise are a band I've seen mentioned many times but not ventured into their music. It might be one of my favourite songs right now, so beguiling.
