How is the summer hot and the winter cold?

Of all the shorter BoC vignettes that feature repeating loops/sampler lines, that one is my favorite. An utterly unnerving penultimate track (or final if you're listening to an original '98 Warp version) that places its chord changes very carefully. If I need to name a "full" track, then it's Sixtyten, but in all honesty that is my favorite track and it's part of the record's identity to me. I see no reason why people look at something like that or Triangles and Rhombuses, The Color of the Fire, etc. and seem to hate it but love Olson. I love Olson too, but BoC's minimal vignettes are never bad in my experience. The "worst" track on the record for me, not counting Smokes or Turquoise because they are carry overs, is Open the Light, probably followed by Wildlife Analysis. This is about a BoC record though, so that's not in any way implying that the least powerful MHTRTC track is by any means bad. Really it just comes down to what defines that record for me. It's kind of a bit too minimal without trying to really be minimalist for my tastes and when I think BoC, I think Geogaddi, not MHTRTC, so my favorite tracks are probably going to be completely unrelated to whatever it is that makes the people who like MHTRTC the most like it the most.

yep, none of the tracks are bad on any boc album, even the worst ones. i love turquoise hexagon sun. open the light is olson's longer, more interesting sister for me. like you, i don't see why olson is seen as better than triangles, fire, bocuma, kaini, etc. but unlike you, and as i've said before, i find that the vignettes work a lot better in the context of the album than as standalone tracks. although, really, the same could be said of any boc track. boc's music screams to be listened to by album. i think my most controversial opinion concerning mhtr is that i don't see aquarius as a standout track. to me, the best tracks are roygbiv, ths, and telephasic. these are followed closely by pete and eagle.

on another topic, does cupz have a guest room or are you sleeping on the couch? and, also, you sound pretty young in the podcast. are you young or do you just sound it?

Well I wouldn't necessarily disagree. Some of them definitely work best in the context of the record and OVIT is one of them. Then of course there are the ones like Olson that are fine as standalone tracks (in my opinion). I respect your opinion about Aquarius. I do find it more album-defining (it's slightly outside my top 3 and that's probably because it's my least favorite version of the track) than many other tracks but it's totally fine that you don't care for it so much. I don't seem to share common ground with a lot of BoC fans. Sixtyten is a serious standout track for me (particularly towards the end) and I feel a little foreshadowing within it while it's still kind of cemented in its time. I completely understand why it made the cut and the album would be worse off without it.

A recent poll shows that almost nobody gives a shit about it.

So while not liking something everyone usually likes is different than liking something most people don't really like, it's the same in principle. One just gets you more flak for it.

I'm sleeping on a couch. The podcast is sped up by ~35% including pitch (at least the recording on my end before he did his Flamingo voodoo on the thing) and while I've never sounded particularly "old", Cupz and I are from the same generation, so whatever. Genetics, probably. I used to compare it to David Cross who has always had this higher pitched voice despite being something like 50 now but truth be told I don't know what I actually sound like from a third person perspective *not* going through a microphone (which made Cupz sound different as well). There are better recordings where I sound far less like that but the whole point of that was to be absurd. I believe he actually sped it up because of Soundcloud's length constraints.
