I remember a video on youtube for 5.9.78 that had a photo of a alien encounter. It was like a guy and there were aliens and a ufo in the background, it was a black a black and white picture from memory. It was not a video though. It was my go to 5.9.78 on youtube only because of that picture as it fitted so well. I noticed it was taken down round maybe 5-6 months ago? Same thing?Skimming Stone wrote:Don't mean either of those unfortunately, the video was taken down a while ago. It involved an alien encounter if I remember correctly, fitted incredibly well.noisy wrote:Well the classic one is still upSkimming Stone wrote:Speaking of old BoC videos, does anybody at all have the old 5.9.78 video that was removed a while ago? It was incredible, and It was a sad day when it got taken down.
and this ones quite good as well, using footage from a classic little film.

Re: Your First Listen
Way back in 2001, my dad had most of Music Has The Right To Children on his 2nd generation iPod that he'd just bought. Since I lived roughly half an hour away from my school at the time, we'd often listen to it on the way there and back. That was how I first heard Roygbiv (I think that's the first one, though it might have been Open The Light) and what ended up kicking off my interest in the rest of the brothers' discography years later.
Back then he had Olson and Smokes Quantity just tagged as "Track 13" and "Track 15" respectively, so we had no idea what they were or that they were part of the album until I picked up the complete version years later. He was also missing a few songs (Sixtyten was one of them, can't remember the others), which again was fixed years later. Nowadays he has just about the same collection as me, though I'm not sure just how much of it he's actually familiar with. I know he knows MHTRTC, Geogaddi, bits of TCH, and the R35TT, not sure about the rest.

If The Campfire Headphase was a butterfly, would Acid Memories be the caterpillar?

I remember when I first heard Everything you do...
It was that video on YouTube with the monkeys cycling down the road and the song was in the background.
So many years later and EYDIAB is still one of my all time favourite tracks. I hope they release more music that sound like this because I must have listened to this song 1000 times and I just can't get enough.

Technically, I think I first heard BoC on either an Adult Swim bumper or from Salad Fingers, but someone recommended them to me and I just looked up "boards of canada" and listened to the first thing, which happened to be IABPOITC.

Re: Your First Listen
I had heard of them back in 2002 and decided to see if they were something I would like so I downloaded some music from MHRTC and hi-scores. I immediately loved Everything You Do Is A Balloon but couldn't find anything else I liked as much as that so wrote them off as a one off and forgot about them until 2009. I had moved to Ohio which has awful winters; gloomy and miserable. I had a 120 mile commute one way to this small town 2x a week so decided to really give these guys the time because so many people went on and on about them on my modular synth forum. And boom that was it. I think it required driving long distances in awful weather and just having the time in my car alone.
Re: Your First Listen
First time I heard BoC was probably on an Adult Swim bumper, Rue the Whirl if memory serves.
The first song I really listened to was Pete Standing Alone, I found it while randomly browsing the internet looking for new music to listen to, which is still my favorite track by them. Shortly thereafter I listened to Roygbiv, then I just ended up buying MHTRTC.
