I came across some stuff I did circa 2009 on 4-track cassette and am in the process of cleaning it up/uploading to Soundcloud. This track was (obviously) done with BOC in mind. Apologies if it sounds a bit too BOC-esque, but I was really missing them at the time! Anyway:

Love it! More than a lil freaked by the bald alien kid tho...

Haha, thanks Torn! Yeah, that pic is pretty freaky. It's actually the alien from a 1986 film called "The Aurora Encounter". Funnily enough, DJ Shadow sampled some audio from the film on Endtroducing.

I'm working on mixing a trak I've spent the last week or so patching in Max. It is not going well. This short sample should give a pretty good idea.

I'm not the best at mixing sounds together after they've been programmed.

I liked that. The bald alien goes really well with it. It looks like he's suddenly heard this weird music and stopped whatever it was he was doing to listen to it.

Did you do the drums on the SK-1?

Haha, thanks Forton; I like your interpretation of the bald alien!

As for the track, no I didn't use the SK-1 for the drums. The SK-1 was fed through an effects processor for the main melody, then I used my Korg synth for some layering and for the arpeggiated bass part. I used the Korg DS-10 cart for the Nintendo DS to program and record the drum pattern. Then I physically "played" the DS live through an effects processor over the recorded drums to thicken them a bit, and to get some of the weird, random stuttering that you hear on the track.

Drillkicker: I really like that track you posted - don't be so hard on yourself! I don't know anything about patching and I don't know what Max is, but those are really quite unique sounds you've made.

Lyst: Beautiful, beautiful track. Really great work!

I wasn't trying to be hard on myself; I'm incredibly proud of the patch that I spent so much time working on. I just wan't very happy with the way the mix was turning out. I now think that it's pretty fine. It still isn't a structured track yet, though, and I don't know when it ever will be.

Thank you for the comment, though.

I haven't shared much in a while as I've been absent from the forums. Anyway, I thought I'd share this little preview I put together for an album I started working on last year, titled "Chasing The Dragonfly". It's sort of a grainy, rural-esque, happy/sad-sounding experimental album. Not sure what to call it...
