I'm not keen on knowing too much. I think a documentary would undermine the brother's mystique, which is one of their primary attributes and what makes them so unique. I prefer to have morsels of info from them and let my imagination do the rest. I also love talking theories and speculating with others fans about BoCs motivations, inspirations, influences, etc.

But I'm also not saying I wouldn't watch the shit out of a documentary if one were to be made :)

Between BocPages and BrunchTime's BoCcasts, as well as the numberous interviews they've done for different publications, I've got enough to chew on.

A film on BOC doesn't need to be warts n' all. If done in the right way it could fuel their mystique even further while also explaining some cool stuff along the way.

Agreed. In the same way they can make enigmatic albums I am sure they could make enigmatic films.

A documentary about BOC (or indeed any half interesting artist) wouldn't need to reveal anything new, or interview the band, or anyone from Warp, or necessarily even anyone in the music business. What it would need to do is touch on universal themes and demonstrate passion and filmmaking talent. I'd love to see someone do it.

Thing is, I get the feeling that there's a danger anyone outside the band doing it is going to try and tap into the "BoC aesthetic" thing. I mean, it's kinda the obvious thing to do, and if they're not careful it's going to come out looking like the fan-videos for their tracks. Most of which are, (lets face it), "I see what you were going for there" - very few people actually pull that off.

This is all great information, will definitely influence the way I produce whatever this piece is.

Initially I had wanted to create a film that syncs with Tomorrow's Harvest with all the footage being shot at ghost towns around the southwestern US all shot onto VHS and Super8, but it turned into this idea to do a film about BoC. I don't know what will happen but I am also thinking about interviewing local artists about how BOC had influenced their work.

So a bit of an update on this project:

So far I've accumulated a few artists local to me (in Los Angeles) who are influenced by BOC and I plan to interview them about BOCs influence on their work, but I'm also curious if there's any fans on here who might be interested in sharing with me their stories about what BOC means to them and also anyone that has a great deal of information about BOC, I'm interested in conducting interviews either through audio or via Skype.

So if anyone is interested, either comment here or PM me and we can discuss what to do in the near future!

Also if you want to share your story here, I will be reading and narrating a great deal. So if you don't feel comfortable being interviewed I could just relay your story through audio.

Maybe I'll start by sharing my story and that could influence whoever wants to talk about their story.

My story: I discovered Boards of Canada in 2005. I was, at the time, somewhere between a jazzhead and a punker. I loved hardcore punk like Minor Threat and Discharge, but also loved Bitches' Brew by Miles Davis and The Mars Volta. I didn't really focus on classification or genres, I learned to look past that, but to tell the truth at the time I really didn't like electronic music. I also didn't know hardly any. All I knew of electronic music was happy hardcore and I loathed that music. One day, my friend Matt came over with two things that would change everything for me musically: his laptop that had Ableton Live 5 installed, and a copy of Music Has the Right to Children for us to listen to together. After jamming on Live for a little, we listened to the album and I was absolutely hooked. It changed the way I looked at electronic music, I learned that it wasn't just music for high-out-of-their-mind ravers with glowsticks; it could also be truly artistic. That's when I started to explore electronic music and now I compose almost exclusively electronic music. Hearing BOC really changed who I was as a musical and film artist.

So that's my story, and if that influences you to share your feelings about BOC, please feel free and they will be included in the final film piece in some form.

Misread the thread title as Doc BoC. Fifteen minutes later I realised my mistake. By then it was too late.

Evidently you do not get good results when the results took you 5 minutes in PowerPoint.

Seriously though, a Boards Of Canada documentary would be really cool, although I'd think I'd enjoy something about the making of and technical aspects of the music more than the origin of the band and the whole BOC "mythos" which is what everybody else seems to want (judging from a quick skim of the thread)
