My wife just tried upgrading her laptop from 8.1 to 10. Worked for 10 minutes, crashed, and its now stuck in a loop where it tries to repair, fails and reboots. Wont safe boot, revert to a save point, and even full recover wont work.

No optical drive and 8 was preinstalled so now we have to find the 10 license key from somewhere, make a bootable usb stick and hope.

My IT guru mate's machine died with a blue message "something happened". Uh huh.

So really buggy as Vista is... putting my ilok key in causes random memory leaks in the kernel being the worst one... I think Ill stick with it.

And this is why I'm happy to be a johnny-come-lately rather than an early adopter.

Good luck man. That sucks.

yeah, I'd do a clean install tbh, upgrades never go well. But if you have a license key for windows 8 on the laptop then you can do a clean install of that first - and then upgrade (using clean install option) from Win8 to win10 for free. Had to do that to my work PC, else it just fialed with "something happened" too haha.

The download is not yet available for me, but I'm really hoping I can do a successful upgrade without having to do a clean install. I'm not looking forward to formatting my hard drive, having to reinstall all the shit I have

Snappy as all get-out. Hell stories seem to be lousy laptop related.

Those running bizarre OS -- what are you guys hiding from?

Working just fine for me, took two hours to download, install and update drivers. Was dragging ass after everything but it is starting to pick up. However, I will be one to say, I miss Windows 8.

Windows 10 is up and running on my PC. I upgraded from 7. So far it's been a good experience. The upgrade installed problem free.

I saved my pennies for a while and I recently upgraded my PC with some fancy new guts. I can't wait to see what DirectX 12 will bring.

On Windows 7, my video card drivers would crash somewhat often. With Windows 10 having been installed for nearly 2 weeks now, I haven't had a single crash yet. And with all the stock drivers that are built into Windows 10, my PC runs smooth as butter. And I never knew my mobo has bluetooth built in until Windows 10 recognized it and automatically installed drivers for it.

I've heard that if you have a facebook/twitter/google+/etc. account there are some security concerns regarding privacy in Windows 10. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, something about the system being too trusting, but I don't use those things, so it doesn't bother me.

I had no issues upgrading from 8 on my desktop computer. I haven't really dug deep, but so far it feels more like 7, which is a good thing. Win 8 on a desktop was annoying as hell.

So, if laptops can run Windows 7 pretty well, can they run Windows 10 without problems as well?

I'm thinking about switching to 10, but am not quite certain if I can run it on my mini laptop.

I'll post the specs here later.

Windows 7 requirements

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Windows 10 requirements

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit

16 GB hard disk space for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

DirectX 9 Graphics device or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display: 800x600

Well looks like the system requirements are the same so it should run fine. You would need a lot of spare hard drive space to do the upgrade though.

I just made the upgrade. Aside from having to reinstall graphics and audio drivers, things went smoothly, and everything seems to be in order.

Yeah upgraded yesterday. Touch wood, seems to be working fine...

Just wish the stupid 'Upgrade now' app they installed hadn't wasted a couple of hours of my life giving me a blank dialogue box before I realised the upgrade was already Sa there waiting to install. Grrr!
