i question whether campfire headphase was really about a mix of streams. seems like it was simply them going deeper into their own sound backed by intentionally not paying any mind to people who'd prematurely defined them by previous releases and the confusion they'd have to deal with

i hope they continue this lack of attention to expectations because they know how that can drive one mad and doesn't serve the music ... and i really feel thats better for everyone. a gift to maybe experience another surprise

and i hope they're out in some giant field somewhere blissed out

I voted for the ambient/downtempo option, but really I'd just like them not to turn shit and boring like most bands do when they get older.

An album with the instrumentation of Geogaddi and the melodies and general vibe of TCH. A drone EP would also be siiiick.

I'd also really enjoy if they ripped off Kraftwerk and did an album solely consisting of remixes of their own songs.

Whatever route they take, as long as they still release music, I'm sure I'll be happy. However, those unreleased live songs, and the alternate versions of songs like Sixtyten done in their live sets are soooo good. And I've been dying to hear them in HQ for a looooooong time now, so I guess I'll vote for that. I'mma go listen to them now.

Every time I listen to the Beck and cLOUDDEAD remixes I think how inventive they are. Some fucking magic going on there. I dunno if it's like cos they've got this structure already imposed on them they've got to work with (or against), so they just drive a truck of BoC straight through it and go hog wild making every couple of bars sound different and unexpected. But the results are some of their most unique, best stuff in my opinion. I'd love to hear them do a proper collaboration, or a remix album, or something along those lines.

anytime i play the Broken Drum remix for an unsuspecting listener it leaves them wide-eyed and in awe.

Kind of - it's by a bloke called David Thorpe, whose art they used on their first EP, album and singles. Their first album is indeed where I first saw his stuff and took an instant liking to it. I think the one in my avatar might have been used on an EP.
Their first album must be one of the most underappreciated in British music, an absolute classic, in my opinion.

Personally I wouldn't mind it that much, everything they have released has had at least some tracks that I love, and for the rest of them, I either like them or don't do as much, but not actually hate to death any of them.

Actually I would like a more experimental approach, but of course that will change if my music prefferences change (which happens fast), so I'd really say "hey, just do what you feel like doing", because it take for granted that they will analyse every second of each track and for the LP ot EP as a whole, and won't release some shitty music.

Quality improves over time in anything you do, so if anything I'll be expecting a more worked approach (not that they aren't known for paying attetion to minimal detail :D)

For me, IABPOITC and Geogaddi were the most BOC of the BOC, even more BOC than MHTRTC. They were the most twisted and beautiful without being gloomy like TH. I'd love them to revisit those mysterious places.

I'd frankly just like to hear something a bit more uplifting after the darkness that was TH.

Oh they are immune to that, don't worry. They and mbv are the only ones who know just what it is.

Just throwing out some random ideas:

1. An album of covers, re-interpreted in a way only BoC could do.
2. One album length track (66:06?) that slowly evolves and mutates into something insanely awesome.
3. A live DVD performance of new and old songs recorded at Hexagon Sun -- including psychedelic, haunting visuals. (Think Pink Floyd's Pompeii).
4. Either a double album or one album divided into tracks written/performed by solely Marcus, the other by Mike. (The anti-Gemini album).

They won't be if they keep up the (personally I feel far too frequent) use of whatever synth they use in place of all the SH-101 wankery back in the day. I'd really like to see them do something really, really ambitious and distant from what they've done in the past. That's what I love about tracks like Julie and Candy, You Could Feel the Sky, Dayvan Cowboy and Peacock Tail - save for maybe some really low/subdued bits, those tracks don't have any of the commonly overused BoC elements. I've only more recently (especially with how they approach the remixes in mind as someone mentioned before) fully come to the realization that they really seldom show us their full creative potential. I spent some time comparing sounds between tracks on MHTRTC and after a while so much actually started to sound the same. Was kind of shocking just how much they'd sometimes fall back on the same tools and sound over and over again and that I'd somewhat missed that. Not a bad thing with that album in any way because it's still fantastic, point is that by nearly 20 years later I think they should definitely be able to live up to their legacy very well and don't feel we really got that last time, especially after Campfire served such an important evolution beforehand. Though they probably were a little rusty getting back into the groove after such a long time. They're probably really well warmed up now and I have a feeling whatever comes next will be a game changer.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

I guess I'd like them to be more experimental but work on smaller projects - a series of distinct EPs for example. I wonder if the pressure to create a coherent album-length work every time is actually a hindrance to their creativity? The EP format could work so well as a way for them to explore ideas and themes that wouldn't sustain a 60-minute album.

I was listening to Collapse and thought I would be down with them releasing an all ambient album. The only issue is they release albums spaced so far apart, I wouldn't want to wait 7 years for a return to their normal stuff.

I'd love some MHTRTC+Geogaddi inspired wreck-my-head-with-vocal-edits-tracks.
