I think the flute sample they use throughout those songs probably comes from an old toy keyboard― it sounds like something they'd use, right? The woodwind sound on The Beach at Redpoint sounds different to me. It has a certain tone that makes me think it was recorded directly into a microphone.

That one definitely seems different to me too, I get what you mean― sounds like there's strings mixed in.
Also, I think the pad in “An Eagle In Your Mind” is a slowed down whistle. I tried playing it with a slowed down irish whistle recording I made and it seems pretty similar: http://puu.sh/kRhG6/21da0c5664.mp3

Hmmm...I don't know Cosmic. The tone in that song sounds a lot like an old yamaha synth or something. After further listening, maybe it is an old Irish whistle though:)

I noticed a while back that if you count the notes in Hey Saturday Sun it reads off as

1-2-3-4-5-6 1-2-3-4-5-6 1-2-3-4-5-6

And then it has a pause and repeats itself. It does this four times for the melody.
Ever since I've noticed it I count to 6 every time I listen to the song.

I think that Beware the Friendly Stranger, The Smallest Weird Number, Over the Horizon Radar, and Diving Station all use western scales. On-topic, starting at about 4:40 in Alpha and Omega, you can hear a woman screaming in the background until the end of the song.

as mentioned above, the piano chords on Diving Station sounds like straight up western diatonic harmony. Also, BoC are using keyboards to record a lot of melodies which are most likely tuned equal temperament.

Try playing Aquarius on piano while it's playing in the background. The groundnote of the first chord is already between F and F#

i don't have perfect pitch though, maybe if i tried to workout the piano in diving station it wouldn't come out through a piano tuned equal temperament!

Could be. I think Aquarius is due to the samples being slowed down. Still, Music is Math..
