fanless laptops

I know there are some tech savvy people on twoism who can help out. are there any good fanless laptops in the 13" range that come equipped / pre installed with windows 10? I've been looking at the asus zenbook, but it comes with windows 8.

I don't want to buy a laptop and upgrade it to 10. I'd rather it already have 10; I've heard so many stories of problems with people "upgrading" from 7 or 8 and it just doesn't work.

backlit keyboards would be a plus.

no macs please.

I can't really help with suggestions but I will say, I had a zenbook and it isn't fanless, it's just really quiet. unless you work it pretty hard then extra fans kick in.

In terms of win10, If you upgrade before you do/install anything you'll have a better time I think, that's what I had to do on my old work PC (Factory reset windows 8, then upgrade windows 10.) PITA but very plausible. And if all else fails once its running you should be able to clean Win10 out.

Zenbook was okay for the price. I think it's more expensive here than it was over here. Sorry to say but the mac I have now is definitely worth the extra money in comparison.

Why would you want a laptop with no fan?

Also, I've heard very bad things about Windows 10, and I know it will often shut down your computer with no option to stop it. My recommendation is just to get a Windows 7 computer, or install Linux into it.

a fanless laptop? why not? It's 2015 and it's an option. it gets really annoying having that fan kick on high. I currently have windows 7 which is great but my machine is 4 years old and starting to slow.

do macs make fanless???

Wouldn't a laptop overheat without a fan? Maybe I'm just an out-of-the-loop Luddite, but I don't know how well that would work. If your computer is old and slow, then install CrunchBang++ or Bunsen Labs onto it. Both are very minimal operating systems and run very smoothly on any computers, including old ones. I've had CrunchBang for a few years and I've never witnessed it freezing, on a computer that's exactly as old as yours. It isn't the computer that's slow, its the OS.

I've been running Windows 10 since launch day and that has never happened. Not once. It's been nothing but smooth and fast for me. Heck, in Windows 7 my video drivers would crash every day, sometimes multiple times in a day. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 they have crashed just once, a few months ago. So it's done nothing but solve problems for me.

If Microsoft wants you to install an update in Windows 10, I know that they will eventually force you to shut down your computer with no option to skip the update. I know someone who lost a lot of work that way. That shouldn't be legal, but it is because Microsoft is allowed to do whatever it wants. That alone should be enough reason to get a different OS. Even Mac doesn't do that kind of stuff.

Yes, some Microsoft updates require a restart. If you don't want it to restart automatically to apply the update then you can change the update settings so that it doesn't. Then it just waits until you manually restart. Problem solved. Another way to solve that is to set the updates to only happen when you are away from your computer. You can set it to whatever time of day you want. I have mine set to 3 am, and if for some reason I'm still up and using my computer, it detects that I'm currently using it and will not restart until it sits idle for a set amount of time. Problem solved.
