The Milieu/Coppice Halifax Free Albums Thread

Post by SampleScience »

I'm a big fan of Milieu's music (one of Brian Grainger's many music project) and I thought it would be a good idea to compiled a list of his free offerings. Most of them are old, as he now mostly release commercial albums (in the sens that they cost money). But not everyone has the money to buy mp3s and some people might discover his music through his free releases. So here it is:

Milieu - Milieu: https://archive.org/details/exp041

An ambient album on experimedia and a very good one. Not as melodic has his other Milieu albums, but there's still something interesting happening in the background.

Milieu - Bent AppleTrees: https://archive.org/details/Milieu-Bent ... sound-2006

You have to download this album if you're an IDM/electronic music fan. This is a must have!! Reminiscent of Boards Of Canada and Aphex Twin. Good stuff!

Milieu - Gunkajima: https://archive.org/details/exp017

Milieu's first album. Very atmospheric, ambient, droney and experimental. Not for everyone, but if you're into challenging music, you'll like Gunkajima.

Milieu - Stray Trains:https://archive.org/details/EAR019

I became a fan with this album. Very melodic and catchy.

Milieu - Three Tone Quintet: https://archive.org/details/nf8001

Not much to say about this one. I may have to listen to it more often, as I've forgotten how it sounds.

Milieu - Brother LP: https://archive.org/details/META005

A personal favorite. It's Milieu's Selected Ambient Work Vol.2. The expanded version available on Bandcamp is well worth the asking price.

Milieu - Slow Lid Close LP: https://archive.org/details/exp011

I listen to this album quite often. Melodic with interesting sound production here and there.

Parallax - Blisschord: https://archive.org/details/mma004

Brian Grainger side project Parallax is a more trip hop, downtempo version of Milieu. I wish there was more of it!

Coppice Halifax - Imperial Grey: https://archive.org/details/TMONG024Cop ... perialGrey

I'm not too fond of this one. But it may be interesting to some of you.

That's about it. Let me know if there's other free Milieu/Coppice Halifax releases out there. Those are the ones I've found on Archive.org.

I was introduced to this guy very recently, coincidentally. I like his work, feels reminiscent of GAS.

Coppice Halifax is his more techno ambient "dub" output. Not melodic like his Milieu releases, but still very good. And yes indeed, he's very prolific, maybe a bit too much for me as I often don't have the time to get tired of his older material that new releases are already available!
