I used to think Happy Cycling was a long-winded and repetitive and kinda unwelcome closer to MHTRTC but lately it makes 239562985298% more sense to me now

"Sixtyten" was the first BoC track I ever heard and loved it instantly. It was on a radio show, years back, that used to play some really obscure stuff. I had the habit of recording each show and this track was the one I came back to most often. So I guess I got BoC right away.

It took me quite a while to get a hold of MHTRTC (it wasn't easy back then) but when I finally did I was hooked for life by the time "The Color of the Fire" started. :)

When I first heard them it was about 04-06 on [adult swim] bumpers, I believe Constants are Changing was the very first to be exact, but it wasn't until winter of 09 that I actually started listening to Campfire Headphase. In an effort to scour for more of their music I watched the Everything You Do Is A Balloon video on youtube, once I listened to MHTRTC and Geogaddi I realized that EYDIAB summarizes BoC's entire style all in one song, the somewhat unnerving tone mixed with the childlike innocence and groovy beat really summarizes them.

I didn't really know what to think of their music at first but I gave them a chance and listened to every album I could get a hold of. I knew I was listening to something powerful. Geogaddi was the album that got me hooked. Their music is so alien yet so nostalgic. My gf dislikes them because their music gives her a "bad feeling". She's also into mainstream music. I wonder what makes a person enjoy boc or "get it". Being more open-minded?

Was into Autechre at the time and had heard a lot about Boards of Canada. Decided to listen to Music Has the Right to Children from start to finish one day in college. Listening through it made 'getting' Boc feel more gradual. An Eagle in Your Mind was incredible, but I think it was by Aquarius that I realised I was in love  The counting, the oranges, it got me good. Went straight to Geogaddi on the same day.

Well I first heard Beware the friendly stranger and I loved it. A few years later I heard IABPOITC and thought it was an ok song. Then I heard dayvan cowboy and it just all CLICKED. And since then, I have been in love with TCH.

Although when I did get into their older albums and eps, I appreciated them even more

Hooked on the first track I heard, which was Happy Cycling, but I suppose my first truly 'wow' moment was when I played through MHTRTC for the first time. The AEIYM 'I love you' stunned me.

Would have been the first track of theirs that I actually sat and listened to as opposed to just hearing them every once and a while and not really knowing who they were.

So Nlogax, then.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

I don't think there's much to get. It's pretty straightforward. I decided to finally check out BoC when Tomorrow's Harvest came out and immediately loved it, as well as the rest of the discography. MHTRTC and Twoism were the only ones that required a few tries to get into, but in general it was pretty easy.

Short answer: Everything You Do is a Balloon got me really interested. Geogaddi made me fanatical. ...What? Song? Not album? Ah yes. I guess Dawn Chorus hit me the hardest on Geogaddi.

Long answer: Around the year 2000, I think, was when my folks decided to get satellite TV, and along with it came a bunch of music stations. I was going through a rough time then and decided to try to relax. So I was looking through the music channels and found an ambient music channel. Sounds perfect. I was already into electronic music and starting to especially liked the more chilled out, ambient stuff. For instance, I had just listened to Moby's album Play and Aphex Twin's SAW albums and really liked them. On the ambient channel, right away it was playing Radiohead's Everything In It's Right Place. (so ya, I guess it was in 2000) I had already been listening to Radiohead's OK Computer and loved it. This song I was already liking better than anything on OK Computer though.
Afterwards a slightly familiar band and song came on. It was Boards of Canada with the song Everything You Do is a Balloon. A few years before, a friend of my brother's had played Hi Scores for us while we were hanging out. I had completely forgotten about this band and EP afterwards, even though I thought it was kinda cool at the time. It didn't really stand out to me then. But hearing EYDIAB at that moment in 2000 hit me hard. I was totally relaxed while listening to that song. That night, when my dad was finished with his computer, I went on the internet and downloaded Kid A, Hi Scores, and I think it was that night I downloaded MHTRTC too, although it might have been later. Once I got a bit of cash I bought Kid A at the local music store. Unfortunately, BoC wasn't popular enough to be sold there and at the time they didn't order albums they didn't have in stock. Bummer, cause most of the music I downloaded off of napster was like 64kbps, as I only had dial-up internet and was an impatient teenager.
I was then listening to BoC here and there and definitely liked their music, especially when I felt I needed to relax. But it wasn't until Geogaddi released a couple years later that I really "got" their music to the extent of becoming a die-hard fan. After being thoroughly influenced by Geogaddi I decided to try my own hand at making music. I had been playing around with synthesizers for most of my life so I thought "why not give it a go myself?" I also then began heavily researching BoC, their methods, ideas, hidden things in their songs, etc. DavidAC and his site was a huuuuge help. How grateful I am that we have Fredd-E here, who took over running the site after DavidAC stopped.

**Side note: Thanks Fredd-E! It's an absolute blast getting to know more and more about BoC, and you are allowing people to do just that in such an amazing, organized way. What DavidAC started and you continued and improved is invaluable to myself and many other fans and potential fans.**

BoC slowly became basically the only music I listened to over the next few years, and completely once the old tunes leaked. I was in heaven when that happened.

Boards of Canada became my favorite band after Geogaddi's release, and they still are down to today.
