Radiohead's Kid A was partially inspired by BoC, I wouldn't be surprised if they were getting farther inspiration from them for this one.

Strangely I could never really get in to Post- Ok Computer that much with an exception for TKOL. In reality my favourite release of theirs is My iron lung EP. Songs like the trickster and permanent daylight. It might seem a little childish almost like I have to 'grow in' to their newer works, but it lacks a certain vibe. Does anyone have any suggestions for more recent radiohead songs I would like?

I never really liked any of their stuff other than In Rainbows and OK Computer, I listened to those albums a lot, but never really took the time to check out their other albums, until a year ago. A lot of their stuff is pretty hard to get into, but I gave all of their albums a fair chance, and now I absolutely love every single one of them, except for Pablo Honey.

If I were you I'd just listen to In Rainbows a few times, if you like that just start giving all of their albums a decent chance. It certainly took me a while to get into all of their stuff, but it really is worth it.

They don't really have any recent songs aside from Spectre; they've become a pretty lazy band. There were the four songs they released concurrant with TKOL, and since you like their pre-2000 material you might dig The Daily Mail.

I'd love to hear them cover Dawn Chorus. Thom's dancing would be spectacular.

Have you listened to Hail to The Thief? It's not very recent, but it's post OK Computer. Considering it's the next album after Kid A, it kinda takes a step back in style. Regardless you should definitely check out all of the The Bends B-sides and the Hail to the Theif B-sides as well, especially if you like the My Iron Lung EP. Tracks like "India Rubber" and "Gagging Order" are some of my favorite tracks by them, and it seems like no one really knows about them.

Actually, Amnesiac is the album that directly followed Kid A. I'm not telling you that to be a smart ass but really because it's by far my favorite Radiohead album and maybe one of their most unnoticed. It was largely conceived and recorded during the Kid A sessions but is more like a hybrid between OK Computer and Kid A.

To get sort of back on BOC topic though, I know it has been said that BOC influenced Kid A era type stuff but nothing on Kid A even whiffs their level of production as far as 'electronic' music goes. I often think about how impossible it would be for a rock band trying to write songs for a singer to also achieve the meticulousness, depth and pure image evoking music/production on par with BOC. The aesthetic is different but I think that Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) could probably come close if it was his goal. Oddly I also think Pink Floyd achieved that dream state/memory/subliminal type vibe on things like Obscured by Clouds, Meddle and “Embryo” although they tended toward ‘slicker’ rock type production techniques. Again, I think that perfect blend is possibly unattainable.

I know there are others but I'm thinking more in the vein of giant 'rock gods'

lol whoops. I feel like I knew that but eh whatever. Amnesiac is amazing though. Pyramid Song is one of my favorite tracks by them.

Also again getting back on topic, I think the only real BOC influence on Kid A is within the first two tracks and Treefingers. Mainly because of the chopped and screwed vocals and ambience, but even then there's not much of a similarity in style. The synth in Everything In Its Right Place reminded me more of an Aphex Twin type synth, almost certain it's done with a Prophet.

the influence also isn't only evident in sonic similarities.

just the headspace they entered when hearing Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin totally shook them up and made them consider new things.

the same thing happened to John Frusciante.

Theres an old BOC interview where they mention not having been especially into their music but they thought Kid A was the best thing they've ever done. It was right around the time that came out.
