Super funky...happy to hear any new Bibio but I prefer his Vignetting the Compost style tunes, as they appeal to my pastoral sensibilities.

Really liked Ambivalence as well, but Mind Bokeh and Silver Winkinson didn't really grab me like VtC and AE did. Was hoping for a return to his old sound, but anyway, new Bibio is always a good thing.

Yeah I'm not sure he'll ever go back to the the VC sound. We'll get hints here and there like on the Green EP. I noticed he bought a white face odyssey and a bassbot TT 303. I can hear the odyssey on that track.

Sounds great! And ya, I love the old style VtC Bibio most as that's what originally drew me to his music, but this new stuff is great too. I'm kinda glad he's evolved from what he was doing. We already have lots of his older style available. It's really cool to see how talented he is in these other styles too.

This is much more dynamic, infectious and invigorating.

obvs I'm not just into Bibio for his occasional detours into funk, but my appreciation of him has increased since he has taken a mighty dollop of pop.
Ever since I went to university and lived a bit of the partying life style, and volunteering at mainstream pop radio stations, my appreciation of the pop song form has increased.

I've learned that it isn't easy to write a pop song, and Bibio has a knack for it. Sometimes he can get distracted in his own indulgences (see: most of Mind Bokeh) but he has the ability to write accessible enjoyable songs within his own musical voice, and that is an impressive feat by any standard.

As 747 said, he had to have moved on, or else he would have quickly gotten stale and become irrelevant. Hell, I think he would have made the move to a more expansive style even if he never got picked up by Warp. As they stand his first three records are a nice showcase of a side of him, while Ambivalence Avenue, Mind Bokeh, and to an extent Silver Wilkinson (though it's more of a throwback with some of the production and pop chops he had picked up added) all show him exploring, and adventuring.

I'm surprised he went as far in the opposite direction as he did, as looking at his trajectory now it could have been assumed he would go down writing more songs within the Nick Drake realm, but hey, he decided to let his influences shine in more extreme ways.

Perhaps it was because Mind Bokeh was the first Bibio album that I had ever heard, but I think it might be his most diverse and genius work to date. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Vignetting the Compost, it's such a lovely album, and definitely up there for me in terms of all his releases. I just like the diversity of Mind Bokeh so much, and at least on this board, it doesn't appear to get as much love. It may be pretty poppy at times, but the composition is so well put together and smartly written, I don't think it takes away from the BIbio experience at all.

I'm more glad that Bibio doesn't just pump out the same album over and over again. In fact, I thought Silver Wilkinson was a great combination of old and new. It had a lot of the older folky style, albeit with a differently produced twist, mixed in with some of the catchier/poppier and electronic tunes.

I love all of his sides, I guess it just depends on which I'm in the mood for on any given day

I think my favorite album is Ambivalence Ave. but I absolutely love St. Christopher.

i prefer Petals, be interesting to hear what the rest has. Not a fan of this 2nd track myself, but love the searing synth lines near end. Each to their own. Silver Wilkinson was better than Mind Bokeh though. I have to say, he's quite handy involved with his own visuals, artwork too, especially that last album using the water bath with fish flies floating about (vaughan oliver style) and camera sitting above. oh an that video of him rotating around while playing the bass. very simple ideas/materials. reminds me of college days doing design.

So I got the Green EP and listened to some of those songs for the first time and WOW!

Also, Dye The Water Green is my favorite Bibio track and I never knew it was from this EP until I saw it there and then immediately bought it.

Also, Bibio shirts are hard to find...

He still can't shake that habit of ending his songs with a superfluous amount of solo-ing, though.
I mean either write a different direction for the song to go in or fucking end it. Don't solo for 2 minutes and tell me it was needed
