Octagon Three

Where is it? Oh there it is. Ooh, machine choir beautiful and glitching. Bent and circuitry breaking through. Loud now, the sunshine is showing. Long way down from here, sucked back into the machine. Yes, the changes in volume are quite effective. Contrapuntal maneuvers at once childlike and professional.

Mikey

Old acid house sounds, dim memories of munching tabs and feeling dead and old at only about 23. Love the rising organ. Voices, reminds me of some Burial. I picture waking up hunched at a bar still, old acid. The light breaking through, similar vibe of first track. Comeuppance of the holy or the illuminated from the dirty ocean we all must get choppered out of at some point. Entropy.

Lots of oceanic vibes so far, and this continues the trend. Childlike journey into a twisted, bluish type of Oz. Percussion is interesting and sounds unfake. Same with the brass sounds. Very into this track. Did we hit a wall at the end? Is the man behind the curtain dead? The cold winding down gave me shivers.

Escher’s House

Only got 30 seconds in. Not too enthralled with the percussion, but the melodies are intertwining well.

Lots of oceanic vibes so far, and this continues the trend. Childlike journey into a twisted, bluish type of Oz. Percussion is interesting and sounds unfake. Same with the brass sounds. Very into this track. Did we hit a wall at the end? Is the man behind the curtain dead? The cold winding down gave me shivers.

Some background information on this: the sample used in Waves comes from a CD I used to listen to a lot as a little kid. I only played the instrumental part, because the slowed down child vocals sound terrifying. What is also interesting, is that the person who wrote the song hides a lot of deeper things into her childerens stories, about sometimes really depressing things.

There are three things I used for making this album: Forgotten classical works (Octagon Three, Child Riot Society), CDs from my childhood (Waves and a track that was so creepy, I pulled it from the album) and original works (the rest, although Plaza Deluxe is based on Muzak). I also created some software for this album, which was a mess to create.

Another thing: The album artwork is a drawing I made when I was four, which plays into the whole childhood thing. If you look closely, you can see that there's a man jumping out of one of the buildings and that he will be killes by spikes.

How: The full story of this album, begins IMO with me having not enough music. I had listened through all of my collection, so I satisfied myself by making my own music with Logic (Before that, I used to play the trumpet, but got bored with it). I think the first song I ever created on my own was Naife (https://soundcloud.com/stavorius/naife) (meaning no samples etc.), but that thing is over a year by old now. Then came the /r/aphextwin Community Album, where I made a remix of mt. st. michel / st michels mount, containing samples from the same CD as in Waves.

So, on that album also was a remix by Cartrox (who now goes by the name of Reversed Reference: https://soundcloud.com/reversedreference), which I really liked. Therefore, I decided to team up with Cartrox and do a song together, which I have only played to Cupz and Cartrox , but will be released at some point. The end result was astounding and I built further on the concept of that track, so I made Mikey. This album is the result of a lot of Logic projects, of which the best are chosen.

So. That's how this album came to be!
