Do Androids Dream of Electric Sequels?
So it looks like the sequel to Blade Runner is being made, I can't see Vangelis doing the soundtrack once again with his current style being very orchestral in nature. My question could you see BoC doing the soundtrack? And do you think it would "work"..?

BoC's way too retro to make science fiction soundtrack in my opinion, even if it is a blade runner sequel
Re: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sequels?
It would work, I'm just not sure the movie execs would be willing to delay the movie another 7 years
Re: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sequels?
would love it, especially on such a huge project, only time I saw heard boards of canada in theatre was Sinister, I kind of enjoyed, the track scene almost was good as whole movie

Yeah, this was kind of my thought, it would work but only if it's on their schedule aka glacial speed...Mexicola wrote:It would work, I'm just not sure the movie execs would be willing to delay the movie another 7 years

end the thread, Mexicola wins.
nor would the movie execs agree to release it on VHS.

I have a hard time imagining a Blade Runner sequel working without Vangelis... seems like the one thing about a Blade Runner movie that is 100% essential.
preparation for a dive.

His style now though isn't fitting at all, very orchestral and not modern sounding..

what i meant is that i think boc's point is to give a sense of nostalgia, to reference the past, and i would be kinda disconcerted to hear tape hiss while watching spaceships (i dunno, i just thought it could be weird)THE BOB wrote:wow.. they kind of just did exactly that. not sure we are listening to the same band..jesuislapourdevrai wrote:BoC's way too retro to make science fiction soundtrack in my opinion, even if it is a blade runner sequel

I think any Blade Runner soundtrack would be more suited for somebody like FSOL if you were to pick an act from the last 20 years.
I don't think anybody other than Eno or Giorgio Moroder have the credentials to come up with something that would come close to what Vangelis wrote.

I think he could, it's more a question of would he want to do it?
Blade Runner should be left alone.

Re: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sequels?
Agreed, but here were are! The thing with Vangelis is the ROMpler's he uses now are nothing like the his brilliantly played CS-80 on the original soundtrack so it would be difficult for him to reproduce something close to Blade Runner OST. And BoC, come on can you imagine Telepath or something like it on the new soundtrack...??Stickyfingers72 wrote:chronical wrote:Do you think Vangelis could come close to something he wrote during that time?Stickyfingers72 wrote:I think any Blade Runner soundtrack would be more suited for somebody like FSOL if you were to pick an act from the last 20 years.

The idea that it's just got to be ONE artist doing the OST could be limiting compared to if they went with a various artist cast...

Re: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sequels?
I don't think it's outside of BOCs scope, I just don't associate their sound being suited for any possible Blade Runner sequel soundtrack.
The nearest we get to a soundtrack from BOC is Tomorrows Harvest. What would be needed is something with a lot more melody, depth & broader sound to what they have written previously imo.

Re: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sequels?
I think it depends on the director, I remember watching Incendies and in the very first shot Radiohead start to play and it worked brilliantly, but overall, yeah it depends on many things, one artist working on the soundtrack is more solid choise, but he must be capable to go with such huge amount of ideasTorn n Frayed wrote:The idea that it's just got to be ONE artist doing the OST could be limiting compared to if they went with a various artist cast...
