BoC Multi-Channel

Has anyone ever wondered what BoC's material would be like as a 5.1 mix?

I've never really been that keen on multi-channel music in the past - I'm primarily a vinyl listener myself - but since hearing multi-channel done really well (Nine Inch Nails for example), I'm intrigued to hear what more speakers and more acoustic space could add to BoC's offerings. Most albums I've heard this way have revealed more detail in the mix (and sometimes whole instruments!). With the multiple layering of instruments and samples on most their tracks, there's vast scope for producing three dimensional soundstages.

I've messed around with 6 channel music before and if done right, it's awesome. And that was just me. If BoC did it, be assured that our minds would be blown.

As soon as I got access to a stereo speaker tv for my PS1 and I discovered that there was waaaaay more to the music in Final Fantasy VII, I hated mono systems. ...And then I discovered the audio settings menu in the game and saw that I could have switched to the mono setting that whole time.

I like stereo much better, for obvious reasons, but mono has it's place. I like stereo for listening to music and mono for certain mixing or sampling. That's really the only time I'll use mono. It also happens to be where it's at.

I think it could turn out fantastic.

"Constants are Changing" in particular has always intrigued me because it actually has a specific pan going on in it...

Tell you what. I'll give it a shot...you've inspired me to go and try this now.
I'll post back with the results.

Also, it would be great to hear suggestions....certain tracks, certain effects/mix ideas...
Especially what track it was that you were listening to when you thought of this first.

(One thing though, since I don't have a surround system to mix on, it's likely going to have to end up as a surround mix that you can hear on headphones.

If there's one track in particular that I'd really like to hear as a 5.1, it's definitely gotta be Gyroscope. The circular percussion on that one would work ever so well with surround sound.

I would commit financial-suicide to get my hands in this lifetime on a 5.1 Boards of Canada release and a proper audio setup to listen it on.
