Touring rumor
Someone want to shoot this down so the rest of us don't get our hopes up? Unless it's actually happening, of course.
Re: Touring rumor
I know BoC have explored themes of the occult and climate change before but unless hell actually freezes over...
Re: Touring rumor
Can I just say, in the most sincere, loyal, honorable and polite way possible. If any tour from BOC ever, ever happens would it be possible to some how engineer a way that twoism and watmm members could at least get first dibs.
I don't want, as was with the latest Radiohead gigs, be on a trash strewn lay-buy on a major A road in Berkshire, staring at a fucking smartphone, wasting my time. Such a horrible experience. And getting tickets was never gonna happen. I don't want to get mugged off by some cunt on TicketRadar.com or TicketSucker.com either.
I know I've probably come flying out the blocks with a major bank holiday drunk chip on my shoulder (over a rumour lol). And I apologize. Erghh I'm digging myself into a hole, but I'd swim the English Channel for a ticket. And The Powers That Be must understand this.

Re: Touring rumor
Um this link is on there, can anyone here understand French?
https://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?815659
Google translation makes absolutely no sense, this bit at least looks like a hoax.
As for a full tour, hasn't that been in the works since The Campfire Headphase? Long time coming, I figure. The thing is, I would imagine they would book shows at least on each US coast, New York + LA minimum, so two shows in Cali and Washington don't really make much sense. Then again, that's the where the good stuff's legal, so that would be shall we say, accommodating.

Looks like it's Bunai Caro - there's a separate link (https://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/bunaicarus-fr) with the same date on but for Bunai Caro; states that they're influenced by Boc. Maybe it's a tribute sort of show?

Hmm sounds more like AFX/Squarepusher than boc.... Cool visuals though. Also, where are the real-ass analog synths? All I hear are software synths, therefore most likely not boc. Also, composition-wise, this doesn't sound half as complex as any of boc's stuff in the last 20 years. Interesting tune though, none the less.

So yeah tour plans have been in the works for ages. Also its funny I'm reading this now, I just found out yesterday I missed Tortoise who was playing in town a few days ago...Opening up a long stretch of conversation on the subject, Mike takes the lead "We've been under a lot of pressure to play of course," he confirms. "One of the things that comes through from the big boss man Warp Records is offers from festivals. Usually our response to that is that we would be more comfortable playing a small venue that would suit what we do. Our live show as it was had a heavy reliance on visuals--we were using video projections and monitors--and secretly over the last 3 years since we last played a gig we've started to develop a different show. We expanded the band and have friends who are part of the potential group if we go out on the road again. And we do intend to go out and play again but at the moment what we want to do is at odds with the offers coming in to play alongside bands like Foo Fighters and people like that."
Marcus, the quieter but by no means less passionate of the two, finishes Mike's thought and addresses more specifically what it is about Boards of Canada's sound that makes the prospect of a live show do tricky. "You've got to know the limitations of the music that you make. I always think of our music as being a lot more like headphone music, a brain music that you can drift into," he says. "So the idea of playing on a stage where you may be coming on just before a massive set by The Chemical Brothers doesn't sound like it would work. Earlier on though, when we were in transition from working with Skam to working with Warp, we did a couple of gigs that were label showcases with Warp artists. We have massive respect for guys like Squarepusher and Aphex Twin but we found ourselves doing shows with these guys and they were so full-on electronic and really full of energy. It wasn't really what we wanted to do at the time."
Finishing Marcus' thought, Mike chimes in for one last comment, the thought of which will certainly become fan-boy fodder for neo-prog and electronica lovers the world over. "It might have suited us better to be put on a bill beside Tortoise or somebody like that. And you never know, we still could end up doing it one day."
Re: Touring rumor
A few years ago I remember seeing some post about a person who "had it on very good authority that BoC were touring the next summer. They "had a good friend in the industry" or some fucking shit.
I told them "go fuck yourself with a rusty fork"
BoC never toured. This bullshit reddit post smells like the same old bullshit.
Especially because theres no fuckin way theyd only do 2 US shows, both on the west coast.

"We're just a band. Not an IDM band, not an electronic band, and not a dance band."

Much as I'd love that to be true...Cupz wrote:July 2nd in Dorset I think, this will be the year!
As MDG said to me back in 2012, '..just make it clear BOC won't be attending or you'll have coachloads of Americans turning up.'
Re: Touring rumor
Brain music, limitations of your music, cool quote cubistking 1906, never read that before, as much I agree with BOC I think all music is best when you experience it through the environment, in the room or in the concert, but it depends, not long time ago I was at Biosphere live and it was possibly weakest live I ever heard, but also was hearing mindblowing ambient -idm sets, Plaid for example was amazing, I heard that Tim Hecker's live sucks, so you never know

Re: Touring rumor
you mean like they did by putting the grid reference for north berwick on their website in 2006? =P
Re: Touring rumor
Thing is with Boards, because they have rarely played live, if they did announce something the music media would go into meltdown. The hyperbole would just be out of control. Just imagine the most reclusive band in the world, who's albums are already legendary and steeped in psychedelia, the occult and The Apocalypse going on tour? Or coming on at a festival? You know It would be fucking crazy.
This method is never, never gonna happen (imo). But there must be a way....

Re: Touring rumor
I just know that I would be beyond devastated if I couldn't see them live.
or if for whatever reason a ton of people who were mediocre fans got tickets before us, but it's also par for the course when it comes to events like this. Regardless I think I should start putting money aside just incase as they've been abnormally active this year.

Re: Touring rumor
I never really got the hype about BoC as a live band. I mean, it is not as if they are doing much on stage and I am too easily bored to spend an hour or so watching two guys on stage behind mixing gear surrounded by noisy and drunk people. Sure, it is the music that matters and I could just close my eyes and listen, but from the live recordings I've heard so far (e.g. ATP), it just sounds too noisy with all the people chattering and so on which would truely annoy me. I don't think BoC music is very social music, I nearly always listen to it alone with head phones. If I want live or social music, I'd listen to something else. The only positive thing I could think of with a BoC concert would be the potential to hear unreleased material or alternative versions of tracks. Of course, if it would be something more stylish, i.e. not the average pub gig but something more decent such as a concerto style event or small event like the desert stunt in 2013, then I would no doubt attend if I can.
