I know this isn't the most popular opinion, odd considering the other responses in this thread, but I really enjoyed the direction they were taking with TCH. I like their 'different' material for different reasons. At the time, they came under a lot of criticism for no longer being an 'electronic band' which I always felt was garbage, because they never really were one to begin with. I've argued with friends who claim TCH is boring, but I'll maintain they aren't really listening to the album or soaking in the full spectrum of the instrumentation and arrangements. TCH is a masterwork in being tastefully subdued and adhering to the 'sun drenched psychedelic sounds/pop music theme.' Incorporating the guitars, again coming under criticism, made sense for a band that takes a lot of influence from the sounds they grew up with. I've never understood why this was such a big deal considering they even approached the guitar sounds in, what I felt was, a really interesting way. I felt like they really tapped into something nobody else, at the time, was really doing with this approach. You can hear this album's influence in a lot of artists/bands today.

I've felt that TH would have the same impact on me with repeated listens and in some ways it definitely has, but it just doesn't strike the same emotional chords with me that their work on TCH, or even Geogaddi, did. Environmental decline and bleakness. If TCH was the beauty and optimism of the 60s/70s then TH is the harsh realities and paranoia of the 70s/80s. It's VideoDrome. The 'sparseness' in TH might have been intentional for this exact reason, but I'd like to hear more work from them that seems more 'rich with ideas' than TH. Whether it's grounded in reality at all, their earlier albums always had some element of playfulness even in their darker moments. TH, to me, does not maintain this same element of playfulness and maybe thats the point. I like it for different reasons. If they continue with the 'approach' of TH it would nice to see them have the same 'density' of sounds apparent in their other material.

In any case, that's my opinion. probably preaching to choir. also, I hope they just do whatever the hell they want to when it comes down to it.

For the record, Campfire is the one I play most often as I drive across the Dorset countryside. Its also the one that's got my girlfriend into BOC so on two counts it's just fine by me.

Good post, seems like you enjoyed both of them, good, for me TH is the most heaviest album their put in, by heaviest I mean, density, distortion and loudness, while being wrapped in total fatalism, yet still keeping some weird uplifitng-optimistic moments, TCH is agreat album, but I honestly didn't heard anything like TH before and if someone have something similar to bring, please, it's a pretty slow-burner like TCH, slowly creeping under your skin

I think they nailed different vibes on every album, so no need to revisit them imo. Agree with the Sisters/Seven Forty Seven direction.

I've always sort of wondered what it would be like if BoC made a whole album of songs similar to Poppy Seed and Orange Romeda. It seems like those two tracks wouldn't really fit on any of their other albums. They're just a completely different sound, and I love it.

If they were to go back and finish some old ideas/come up with new tracks in an older style, I'd really like to see them put in stuff that sounds like the MHTRTC/IABPOITC era.

I wanted to hear more of their quick paced work. At first I was really turned off from stuff like King of Carnival, XYZ, and Corona, but as I got older and my taste for jungle and garage stuff developed, I returned to these tracks and fell in love. I like how it almost forces them to simplify since there is so much already going on.

On that note, I would be happy with a direction similar to the sound of the sisters remix. It reminded me a lot of their outspoken influences https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oespMmWnDo Would love to hear them dig into that more.

I'd be very keen with a run of EPs. Four or five tracks on each release.

Aphex (Analords, Come to Daddy, Tuss, Analogue Bubblebaths) and Autechres eps are some of their best material.

My mind would melt at the thought of BOC doing something of the scale of Richards Analords. That would be insane.

i'd like to hear them do something really psychedelic. it seems like they've always been good with f*ing around with your head. so why not just go straight for it.

for example, that little outro at the end of slow this bird down, the way they produced that to sound like its a distant banjo being played on a distant radio station, those types of things i just miss about their music.

MHTRTC but with a Trans Canada Highway kinda feel, thought i picked the 1st option for the leading 20 thus far. I don't want anything like TH again because it was too much gimmic and not the style they seemed to claim initially.

I'd like to see them go in the direction of releasing original new music. period. Didn't they have like 8 releases in like 10 years between 1995 and 2005? Then one (TH) in the next 10 years. I really wonder why that is. I know they don't "need" to, but very curious as to why they haven't. I mean clearly its not a priority. Its funny how tight knit the twoism community is, but very apparent M&M really want nothing to do with their fans and could care less about any communication with "us" in anyway. I get that there is no obligation for anything like that, but with such a devoted, and lets be honest, rather small, yet hardcore following, its odd that they are so adverse to even giving updates or anything in that nature, and any "news" that we ever get comes from Warp or some ambiguous MDG post. Back in the early 2000's it was better because there was at least some interaction, even if it was cryptic, but not its like they could give a shit about those who love and pay for their music.
