Update : after playing it in reverse it's definitely something in a southern English accent, but I can't tell what it's saying due to the loud foreground. It's actually played both forward and in reverse, the same as the melody. The track is made up of one loop that's being switched between reversed playback and normal playback. It's definitely interesting and seems like something BoC would have experimented with during that era.
In reverse it's "the sun came out last night. He said it sang to him". A sample from Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind.
As discussed before- Rough Trade tweeted out that exact line on 4/26/13 during the TH campaign.
Listed on BOC pages as well: 11:42 PM - 26 Apr 13 "He says the sun came out last night. He says it sang to him."
And this track surfaced way before then, so to me, that's a big indicator...

That combined with mdg's unexpected silence regarding these oft-discussed tracks pretty much seals it for me. This is BoC.
MDG doesn't debunk every hoax that comes along. Silence does not necessarily equate to an affirmative and much as I'd like to believe, I'm less certain.
Fun sample though. Always did love that part of the movie.
If any of these were to be real, I think I'd want it to be Close3. It's the voices that make this one better than the others for me, really nice little piece

It is the best out of the three, and it does have a very similar mood to the track that we believe to be 5d.

True. I wouldn't be surprised if it was real to be honest, but then again I would hardly be shocked if it turned out to be fake. I know silence doesn't necessarily mean confirmation, but it's funny that MDG hasn't told us anything about these tracks in any of the numerous times they have been brought up in the past.
OMG! Gioter! I remember that cereal box cover! That was a long time ago. Awesome stuff!
I've had these clips since summertime in 2004. Goiter probably got them right at the same time, which was around their being put up on SLSK. Not sure if fake then, not sure now... Would be great if MDG finally steps in to clear this up after 12 years of speculation. Like scratching a 12 year old itch.

That's around the same time as the random 35 track tape (I hate calling it that) allegedly made it's first appearance on soulseek.
Just a simple yes or no from anyone who knows what the real Closes Vol. 1 sounds like, please!
I find the links between the close encounters sample on helios sound, The fact rough trade tweeted the sample during the TH campaign (and I believe this sample was broadcast outside the store on release day) plus the fact New Seeds has the classic close encounters tune at the end. All too coincidental.
I mean what are the chances that someone faked a BoC tune and randomly chose to include a close encounters sample, With no prior references from BoC to that movie that we know of at least, 10 years before the release of TH.. I personally think the odds of that as a coincidence are incredibly low

Where is the reference for Rough Trade retweet? Man that gave me seriously flashbacks the hype fest for Tomorrows Harvest and Adult Swim promo.
That would be interesting.
Even though I say 'sounds fake to my ears' maybe it's just because this is primitive era BoC.
IDK will let smarter people chime in on this one
The first one of the three sounds most 'authentic'

I think we're all going crazy for new BoC material or re-releases of previously leaked stuff in higher/full quality.
~If you can be told what you can see or read, then it follows that you can be told what to say or thïnk.~
Here's a screenshot of bocpages where the tweet is referenced and a video from outside rough trade. Regarding the close encounters line being played, I can't find anything to support that, But I distinctly remember someone mentioning it, Could be wrong.
Apparently the promotional number stations were being played in store while the projection was happening but it can't be heard in the video, So take that as you will

guess I'm still confused on the correlation between these alleged closes vol 1 clips and the projector video on at Rough Trade.
one seems to have nothing to do with the other? Including the screenshot you provided thats just some random quote?
Am I missing something? Sounds like you're just operating off loose memory association possibly at least.

The screenshot is the reference you asked for, The tweet sent out by Rough Trade with the line from close encounters.
The video is of the time and place where i remember someone mentioned somewhere that line from the movie was heard, Just to give some context.
As for the clean digital sound, Yeah I agree it sounds very clean..but a lot of their music does. Bit of a weak of an argument to say that it sounds too digital and not analog enough.
Maybe someone can analyse the tracks for any information
