This music sounds like a diarrhea shitting war.

It was even a conscious effort to “separate the wheat from the chaff really, in terms of listeners.”

I like the idea of separating the shitty listeners from the devout ones, hell i've been trying to stray from the pack my whole life, but it gets problematic (to me) when you go overboard with it. It's almost like the extreme hipster affect, of trying so hard to be different that you just turn out ridiculous looking.

Needless to say, i've never liked 1 autechre release. Tried giving them a chance for years. This 12 minute nonsensical barrage of noise kind of cements that for me.

But to each their own!

I've been listening to elseq 5 and spaces how V is pretty great. It sounds like some of their Exai patches have been expanded and altered and I love it.

As for a vinyl release, I'm afraid that æ may be releasing music exclusively on their online store from now on. But the good thing about that is we get a lot more music when it doesn't need to fit onto a vinyl or CD album.

Unfortunately I'm low on cash right now, so it'll be exclusive streaming for the time being.

actually....at 4 hours, and with tracks up to 27min....you be looking at probably 10 vinyl. most likely $300?
i can see why it prob wasn't the 'go to' plan.

it would still be cool though.
i hope if they DO do it....they will consider allowing those that spend the money in the digi copies to get a discount on the purchase

I think what turns me off is it's TOO technical of music. Very metallic and robotic sounding. I prefer music with a little more heart and soul to it - organic sounding, etc.

Actually, I find that autechre is actually very much about organics and soul, but they pour it into the robotic.
In essence it feels like they create artificial, semi-biological life through sound.



This part is an excelent example. Tell me this doesn't sound like some internal semi-biological organ from a sentient device?
They friggin create life with electronics!


Edit: Also, for some reason Autechre beats have an incredible effect on my bowels. If that ain't organic I don't know what is.

another issue I have with Autechre's recent out put is that it comes out in such a quantity in that it feels like they can do it in their sleep.

I don't think they have lazy days. The impression that I get from their music is that they're doing what they really enjoy and they simply don't tire of it, which would be why they're able to do so much of it.

I remember there was a time when I didn't get autechre. I was like "it's just hours of noise! Where's the melody?"

But then when Exai came out I heard Bladelores and I fell in love. If you listen really carefully to the last three minutes, there are some beautiful chords being played. Very subtle and effective

Also tri repetae is a brilliant album

Tri Rep is brilliant, but I don't think it could be a favourite of mine because of how accessible it is. I love Autechre for how extreme they can make their music, with destructive percussion like on Untilted or the bizarre sterility of Confield. Tri Rep certainly is an amazing album, but I think it's more amazing for people just getting into the group.

That's pretty much the complete inverse of my appreciation of Autechre. I get a lot of pleasure/inspiration from Amber through to LP5, where the experimentation is tempered with melody and rhythm. I can admire something like Confield or Untilted but I don't feel anything for it.

I never said it was a bad thing, and I will repeat that I think Tri Rep is a fantastic album. The Garbage EP is one of my favourite releases of theirs! I was simply making an observation that most new listeners I've come across tend to appreciate Incunabula - LP5 the most. Not to say that all new listeners follow that trend, and not to say that preferring them signifies 'worse' taste in any way, but I do believe that most new listeners I've come across go to those albums because of their very solid balance between melody and rhythm/percussion. All of their albums are great in my eyes, I just tend to get more excited by their more experimental works
