the world has become a very dark place over the past 15 years.

People always say this but it's never true.

Optimistically speaking we are living in the safest period of minkind ever. The average age is still rising. Due to the media and the internet we think the world is becoming darker because we get aware of everything that happens on the other side of the planet.
Resources are running out though because the world population is still growing but we will reach the top high in a couple of decades due to education. Polution is still a thing but we are slowly taking steps in the good direction.

News = a product / bad news sells, positive not. Do the math.

Yeah, I can see how that would make the world seem bad if you actually cared about what's happening on the other side of the planet, but that's a ridiculous thing to get upset about. I can make the world a much better place in one easy step : don't pay attention to the news.
