What are your hopes/expectations for the next release?

I'm thinking of something along the lines of drunk Canadian men hitting wooden boards against the walls of the Canadian border while shouting profanities, and then have it all filtered through some weird effects while a stray synth line plays for 20 minutes.

In all seriousness I know that they'll at least come up with something new that we've never heard before.

Compilation of unreleased stuff. I think the band is somewhat unofficially disbanded due to the brothers each having their own families and apparently living is separate countries. They probably want to get some stuff out there, but I'm having a hard time believing they will find time to be back together long enough to put a whole album together that's well thought out full of new stuff.

I could be completely wrong, just a thought I've considered.

I had not heard that either, but from interviews it sounds along the lines of what they were up to for a couple of years following the release of the TCH EP, but they then reconvened and built their new studio and released TH.

After 8/22 came and went, I guess there's not much to do other than wait. They aren't even making their quaint little "likes" on social media anymore.

I still like the 9/9/2+0+1+6=9 thing. They already threw 3x 8s at us in a less obvious way, Nothing is Real got posted on 8/24 - there's 3x 8s in 24.

Maybe they will launch a new website on 9/9 and just post a black box with FB Like/Share buttons attached to it instead of announcing a new release.

I don't have the timeline of what I remember correctly, but I recall hearing at least one of them moved to Hong Kong I think? Not sure where the other was. If that was before TH and they did indeed reconvene for that album, then maybe the separation is not as bad an issue as I was assuming.

I've definitely been under the impression they're kind of more at a "whenever we feel like it" stage of their careers, rather than thinking to themselves when they're going to release the next one.

But just like most things surrounding them, this is all speculation

I'd like to hear this too, even more than I want to hear remastered Old Tunes era materials. My question is if they had hundreds of tracks they thought were potentially good enough for release on Geogaddi, how many do they have for the other albums?

I just really want boc to have a little fun on the next project they do. When I listen to TCH I hear so many songs where it sounds like they are having fun, and also on geogaddi where they are reversing all those messages.

I do hope they release something soon, and I'm sure it will be good

I remember reading this. It was more indicative of their travelling. They mentioned having time to travel around after TCH. I haven't heard anything to suggest that they are living worlds apart.

It wasn't until 8 years after THC they released a new LP. Hopefully it won't take that much time again until we get to see another release, but unfortunately these things happen with bands. I'm sure that they are still actively making music, since they never plan to stop making music.

New LP?... Included in the BoCset Think about it now.... They're boards of tablet now and they can make music where ever and anywhere like everybody else. Look at it this way, change baby's diapers > write a melody > take a walk with the kid in stroller > degrade beat's/design hi-hats haha

They probably have enough security to protect their selves now so they work freely and probably make so much music for their selves and us and they're getting around to putting something out soon. Lets hope!

No one knows if he actually moved to China or not. Also, I have it on good authority that Hong Kong isn't really China according to the Chinese.

These days I wonder if they're a little too tightly wound for their own good. Their behavior seems to resemble mine when I'm out of balance and aiming too hard for 'perfection'. Whatever that is. Part of me wants a simple soundcloud dump on Saturdays kind of thing, with spontaneous playlists that mirror the spirit of those times, but most of me knows that's not really them and not really likely. I guess it's just a matter of seeing how it all plays out, everything seems to have a reason.

I agree. Their early releases didn't really have much of a concept to them, and that was fine. I like the idea of a release being shrouded in mystery. Twoism, for example, is quite a bizarre record. You can never be sure exactly what's going on in the music, but it all makes sense even though you can't really explain what you're hearing. That's how I feel about it anyway. I'm not sure if what I've said even makes sense

The "mystery" appeal is exactly what I dislike about Boards of Canada. They try too hard to remain mysterious these days by giving their albums big concepts and the whole ARG promotional stuff with the super secret listening party. I like old BoC because of how many cool tunes they made without any pretension to it. It was just really good, atmospheric music and none of it had hidden messages or occult themes. Geogaddi was where it all started going downhill for them. The music is still good but now they don't want to release any of it unless it has 900 million backmasked demon invocations buried in the mix so people can spend time treasure hunting them all while they work on the next esoteric sound gospel instead of just putting out good music.
