I'll have to remember to reference the BoC pages wiki next time  Looks like some weren't aware of it even still, though, so no harm done.

I have a vague memory of listening to those Colby cassette tapes when I was a kid. Or maybe that was Psalty, that creepy blue Bible creature, I forget. It's uncanny how often Boards of Canada's tracks tap into the most obscure memories of my childhood.

YOU WOULD ! ;)

On another note this is starting to paint a super unsettling picture of the band... Is all the Jesus stuff a pro christ message ? or is it more of a continued commentary on cult-like thinking ? Colby has always disturbed me, religious A.I. is a creepy concept.

Its whatever you want it to be, Geogaddi era was all about cults, religion, mysticism, etc and this track dates from that era too.

On a surface level, maybe Christian people like some of the samples or ideas used, but looking deeper I think it's often meant to be a statement on how people can be controlled by religion too.

I think what it comes down to is that they just write about stuff that interests them.

I think it's also about polishing a turd with making something cool out of that super sappy sample. The stage managed kids singing about Jesus is, let's face it, pretty creepy in its original context and subverting a Christian kids record by doing the playing it backwards thing on it like it was some kind of 80s 'evils of rock' thing is kinda hilarious. I find it funny anyway.

Isn't it beautiful either way, not paying attention to lyrics or meaning and just focusing on the sound as a child would. That christian song is capable of making me tear up a little bit.

Agreed, it's a really beautiful song regardless of religious intent.

It's pretty clear by the manner in which they recontextualize religious samples that they aren't making "praise and worship" music. They address and evoke christian sounds and imagery alongside that of cults and false prophets, the relationship between leaders and followers, embedded in ominous tones and scales. They do so in a way that is not simply contrasting the two in a good vs. bad type dichotomy, but equating the ideas, blurring the boundaries between them and obfuscating the truth, something that cults, religions, false prophets, AND the band all seem to be equally good at.

You are absolutely correct. The giggling with the sharp inhale/exhaling is identical. IABPOITC has other sampled laughter from a different source (or sources) layered on top of it, but this is absolutely the same laughter that's in the background.

Please dont let this slide, folks.

Legit?

I will check it out for the samples list that is in need of updating anyway.
