Re: Stranger Things TV series
I've watched the first four episodes or so, but it doesn't really remind of BoC at all. Honestly, the show feels pretty mediocre to me. I wasn't around for most of the 80s, so that might be a factor too.

Thanks for the reminder. Meant to move it a few days ago.drillkicker wrote:Why is this thread in the BoC board, though ?

Dustin is my spirit animal - that kid is hilarious. Cop chief is pretty bad ass too - everyone else has their bits, and I feel they play them well enough. The biggest standout being 11, she does a phenomenal job acting-wise, just not a huge fan of the character.
Matthew Modine is creepy AF though. Apparently an official soundtrack is in the works for release (hopefully the score with S U R V I V E) as well as a rumblings about a 2nd season...

Agree about Modine. Couldn't place his face at first, now I can't help but think of Private Joker doing his war face every time he's in close-up.

I started watching this 6 days ago and I have watched the series 3 times over haha. Its a perfect little series, no pudding was over egged here and its more nostalgically 80`s than the 80`s.
Id be happy if they were to leave it at that to be honest and did something else in a similar vein but still very looking forward to seeing where they take it.

Just watched the trailer. First thing that comes to mind aesthetically is Twin Peaks, which is a good thing in my book.

Re: Stranger Things TV series
I thought it was a decent series,
the first three episodes had moments which made me eye roll and sigh, with some characters falling into too familiar tropes and just being annoying, and the story not moving fast enough for me.
It picked up in the final few eps, though. A lot of the character flaws worked themselves out, and the series capped off in a nice way.
Not perfect, and maybe relied a little too heavy on its Carpenter/Spielberg/Cronenberg homages, but it was fun while it was on.
And only 8 episodes, it didn't take too long to watch either.

Okay I was 14 in 1983 and this show has been really fun. Mostly I was trying to see if the songs stayed authentic to the year. And mostly it did, some were from 84-86 but were used as background soundtrack music and the songs that were actually on the radio fit the timeline. Next I tried and failed to get all of the references, there are almost too many. I caught the big ones but seriously Firestarter, ET, CETK, Alien, Stand by Me, The Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm St, Jaws, The Mist, They Live, Karate Kid, Vacation, Goonies, The Thing with Ennio Morricone's score referenced in parts of the score of ST and of course John Carpenter as well as Tangerine Dream. It was a really fun romp including the eye rolls parts which a couple of those other movies I mentioned had as well.

Bit late to the party, but I just finished it. Very enjoyable, interested to see where they go with series two.

Absolutely love this show to death. Kinda weird because I don't have nostalgia for that particular era (same thing with BoC too), but of course I love the vibes and themes from that era anyway. Definitely the feelings of childhood and revisiting what it felt like to be a kid that grabbed me the most. Soundtrack is also off the wall fantastic. Can't wait for season 2!

It is pretty much what I was wanting Super 8 to be and a bit more. I like it a lot.

I wish they did the soundtrack actually.mechanismj wrote:The masters take notice.
Everyone's raving about the score but I thought it lacked themes and themes were so important in 80's films
The show is great though.
Re: Stranger Things TV series
I really enjoyed it, but I don't feel like it needs a second season. It seems like they had no choice but to keep it going because it was so successful, which almost always results in a letdown. I hope I'm wrong. I'll give it a chance.
