I know we've got some ISB fans in here, as well as Nick Drake, and I gotta be honest: I'm loving this stuff. Anyone in here have recommendations in a similar vein?

are you guys into the new folk scene?

devendra banhart - rejoicing in the hands is great

as well as anything by bonnie 'prince' billy (more importantly 'i see a darkness', 'get on jolly' ep, 'master and everyone'. his new one 'the letting go' is excellent as well.

I think Helios was influenced by Vashti.

"Dragonfly Across an Ancient Sky" is straight out of the lyrics of "Lily Pond."

Would Animal Collective be folk? Their Sung Tongs album especially has a folky feel.

Vashti performed with them, so I guess yes.

Apparently some of the same people behind Fairport Convention and ISB are behind this Vashti album.

From "Fairport Convention" i suggest : "The Classic Years" [1967-1975] a 2/cd on Island Records.

Woohoo..folk rock thread.

I love Pink Moon...such a great album. I'm very partial to Neil Young..the stuff that most people arent familiar with is awesome. "Tonight's the Night" is my favourite by him anyway. Bob Dylan is great too..and anything by The Band. I'm not sure what else to mention....

Feathers are a good band to check out. Vashti is great also. Free Festival's more folky tunes. Woodland, Selbyville's folky moments. Tum have some good songs. Canyon Country, Winter Flowers, Women & Children, etc.....
