I've mentioned this years in the past, but myself and some friends heard about Campfire Headphase from Radiohead's Dead Air Space. Incredible time, the digging into their older music while waiting for the new stuff.

Re: How did you discover Boards Of Canada?
Saw MHTRTC pop up in a thread about electronic music on a German forum, so I decided to check it out. I was already into Aphex, but I had a really hard time getting into them, it was unlike anything I had heard before.

Re: How did you discover Boards Of Canada?
around 2003-2004 i was spending a lot of time on a deftones forum. i ended up frequently speaking with people on that forum using instant messenger. actually now that i think about it, almost all of the music that listen to today (almost 15 years later) is from the conversations i had with people back then and trying out different genres.
so anyway. my friend Rosie and I were chatting, and she recommended i check out Boards Of Canada. if i remember correctly, she brought them up while we were talking about psychedelics and such. i am pretty sure she equated BOC's music to her early psychedelic trips. she ended up sending me a few tracks to try out. now this is going waaaay back in my memory bank, but the tracks i remember being sent were. Julie and Candy. Alpha and Omega, Sixtyniner. Twoism, & An Eagle In Your Mind.
I am pretty sure i checked the tracks out and enjoyed them. I don't remember getting sucked in immediately or anything like that. i just kind of liked what i heard. then over time it all kind of hit me.

I was on the pot and a voice said to me... We all know an eagle is in your mind, but don't forget to wipe.

Re: How did you discover Boards Of Canada?
In Canada there used to be a late night radio show on CBC called Brave New Waves, which for a while in the 90s was most Canadians' gateway to new music, before the internet took over that role in the 2000s. One night in 1998 host Patti Schmidt played "Happy Cycling" and coincidentally I happened to tape that broadcast. I played it back the next day and was immediately enthralled with that track.
Last year I rediscovered my cassette recording of that show and I put snippet of Patti talking about BOC (albeit slowed down a bit) in this mix ( https://www.mixcloud.com/pandamagic/ant ... mechanism/ ) around the 30:17 mark. She mentions that supposed full-length super-8 film BOC were working on and I can remember being really excited at the prospect of seeing it one day. So naive I was back then . . .
