The Tea Thread

Post by 2020k »

I started the coffee thread, so why not the tea one? Anyone a big tea drinker?

I really love a good herbal teal. Peppermint, Spearmint, Camomile... I've been trying to find a good lavender/lemon or just lavender on its own.

Hibiscus blends are extremely volatile. I've learned less is more and DO NOT steep more than 3 minutes or you'll be more bitter than BOC fans waiting for a new album. :D

I'm English. There are two options.

(1) proper tea (someone started calling this 'English breakfast tea'. Wrong! It's just tea) Strong and swarthy looking. The colour of He-Man's face. Aka 'Builder's tea'.
(2) poncy tea. Basically pot pourri. Put it in a bowl or pomander to freshen up stale odours. Put it in a cup me I'll pour it over your head.

There are about nine billion different rules and standards re: deviations of thos- okay, well, you're English.

Techboy is not only Scottish but Glaswegian. Maybe there are about only nine there. Granted, I had a coffee, though AB had tea and was asked the same question.

It concerned whether or not you wanted sugar in it. Techboy asked both of us.

To which AB responded with "two", if I recall correctly.

I mean, it's not that didn't know of the existence of sugar cubes, they're just considered novel here; "would you like sugar" not being a prompt for numerical quantity.

As I recall, the usual question attached to a beverage in Glasgow is usually 'Wit? Nee fukin chaser wee'it ya poof?!?'

Does iced tea count, or does it have to be hot tea?

As you can tell by looking at my interests, I'm basically addicted to iced tea.
If you think this is over, then you're wrong.

Oh, my music is here, by the way -> https://isotope-1.bandcamp.com

Swerving from my usual choice on a day like this and actually just now sipping a Camomile Tea for the first time in years - something mellow for the late hour

Iced tea might get you stabbed by some, but I'll allow it.

Man, I know a lot about tea. i can look at a cup and tell you exactly whether or not it has a bag in it.

Yes, that'a derivation of Hedberg, though I'm positive he'd still laugh if alive.

Black, Thai variants. Tea to me. Otherwise it'd be ayahu- coffee. Tea is great, sure; IMO, java is better.

roisin's in to all her weird tea, i just have black tea.

jonse, sugar cubes are for cafes really - i meant teaspoons. i think that's the well understood convention up and down the island, certainly "up 'ere".

obviously when i said "mulk" i meant whisky.

So the church doubled as a cafe then? Or is that yet another specifically Scottish application of a word? You had cubes.
