Invocation Counting Background Source Found

Post by TOYOTAセ&#1 »

In another one of my boredom quests, I found the background video source for the counting part (A is to B as B is to C) in the video "Invocation". It is yet again, another damn Sesame Street sample

The numbers aren't in there however, and unfortunately neither is the counting part as well. But hopefully they will be found one day!

Nice find!
There should be a megathread for all Sesame Street related BoC samples/artwork sources found in reality as this is just getting silly now (Not you) just the fact that so many sample sources and now stills from visual releases have sources originating from Sesame Street. What episode number is this? A lot of them come from the same tape it would seem.

Didn't you start a sample thread Val? Seem to recall helping you edit it ;-)

Most Sesame Street samples used by boc were from episode 2852. http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Episode_2852

This animation wasn't, but it's another old one that has been on lots of episodes. Some from the same year as episode 2852 went out, so it could've been taped at the same kind of time. Some much later, so it could've just been grabbed when they wanted to put video to it when invocation was made

Planning on researching this more but according to the Muppet wiki, both the Madrigal Alphabet bit (The one linked in this thread) and the O Is for Orange bit both appear on a VHS release from 1986 titled "Learning about Letters." Given that 1986 is a qualifying time period and that a VHS tape would result in the same video distortion found in the Invocation video, I wouldn't be surprised if maybe BoC had this tape. Personally I myself watched the Learning About Numbers tape a lot when I was a kid and might sample it at some point in my own music.

That actually genuinely slipped my mind, thanks for the reminder!

It is probably in dire need of an update so I will browse around the most recent pages of threads on here as I am sure a lot of sample sources have been found between then and now if I recall correctly.

Isn't Melissa Olson responsible for the Invocation video? You know, I always wondered if the name Melissa Olson was only a pseudonym used by BoC?

I may have a couple of other sources that could be useful to you. I'll PM them to you for you to check out first

I found out where the numbers are spliced out of. And yes, it's Sesame Street again.

You can tell its from this because in the Invocation video, there is a thin black line that is faintly visible when the numbers go from 1 to 10. And also because the style of the numbers are the exact same. It's especially noticeable on the numbers 8 and 10

You're literally blowing my mind. The first half of this video (without the Spanish) appears on the Learning About Numbers VHS I mentioned earlier. That tape was such a highlight of my childhood and I can't believe I never put together the connection with the numbers. Thanks for making my night! I think I need to watch that tape again...

This is wild. There's a lot more to the editing of Invocation than I realized

I am pretty sure Melissa Olson is either Mike's or Marcus's partner.

Melissa Olson sounds like the name you get when you mash "Marcus Eoin" (pronounced Owen) and "Michael Sandison" together.

That's true actually. It sounds like the kind of thing they would do in reality so who knows.

It was clear from the cover of BoC Maxima (wearing full winter gear on a desert backdrop) that they were playing with the listeners from day one.

I like to think the surname "Olson" is a reference to Frank Olson and MK Ultra + LSD experiments. It seems right up BoC's alley.

When they said Olson was the "surname of a family we know," they may not have meant a family they know personally.

Melissa Olson made the Dayvan Cowboy video. I don't remember any mention of her making the Invocation video. Please do correct my poor memory if need be. She is a real person. I'm thinking that she's the girl that accompanies Louise Campbell on the Old Tunes art and Hi Scores art. I also think that Val is right about her relationship with the band. Not that it matters for us to know, anyways. If I had a photo editor installed right now I'd get a celebmag mock up going of some funny "shocking news is the world of Chas-lissa" trash story. :P

A desert? Looks to me like a snowy hill. Even if it's a snowy beach its probably freezing.

I lived in the United States southwest for quiet sometime and let me tell you, it gets pretty cold in the dessert throughout the different seasons including at times even snowfall. The temperature can be enough to warrant beanies and heavy coats.

@747Music
It does state on the BoC Pages the video Invocation was directed by Melissa Olson along with Dayvan Cowboy. I can't remember who came to that conclusion at the moment. It may have been stated in an interview with the band if memory serves me correctly.

As for the two ladies on the High Scores ep, I always liked to believe they were the real Julie and Candy.
