R35T Origin theory

Post by Flory »

The R35T could have been a mixtape from one of the friends of the boc brothers who had gotten a copy of the 5 lost albums. Most likely it was the user's favorite tracks so he compiled them into a huge 35 min set of songs so he would not need to go back between every cd or casset. It could have been leaked by the user not labeling the tape and forgetting what the tape was many years later. And A could have sold it a a gradge sale to the Leaker. Or B was donated to a thrift shop which then the leaker got a hold of at the shop.

That is a long stretch.
this thread is full of shenanigans.

From what I remember, that tape has various real early BOC tracks on it, and a good chunk of it actually isn't BOC. MDG was even perplexed by how it came to existence.

I don't remember the part about a portion of the songs on it not being BOC.

no, he authenticated the entire tape but said it came from a number of different sources.

The tape’s authenticity was verified by the fact that a number of tracks from it have been included in the video playlist on BoC’s official YouTube channel. There’s also the fact that no other band quite sounds like BoC. You can tell they’re real just by listening.

I think OP’s origin theory can pretty much be assumed from available info (most of the tracks cannot be found on any other available releases, tape hiss can be heard on them, and the number does not match the number of tracks on any known releases, including pre-Twoism records, etc.)

I was hoping for something more, like an original source. From what I can tell they popped up on P2P networks in the early 2000’s and it’s difficult or impossible to trace it back to the original uploader. I will say that I know they were labeled as BoC when they were uploaded, so the Leaker definitely knew what they had.

There were other bands making stuff that sounds like it would fit in with those Old Tunes tapes. Gescom and Jega immediately come to mind. But MDG's authenticating the entire tape is a trustworthy thing to believe. It is a tape that someone (not Marcus or Mike) with access to a good selection of unreleased to the public BoC tracks mixed together themselves. Some of the tracks may be versions of tracks from the pre-BOCMaxima rare releases. The only way to know if any of those tracks are also used in some way on those releases is to compare these tracks with those impossible to acquire releases. So that's not happening. Not that it matters much anyways as we know they're BoC songs and are an enjoyable listen.

They showed up on soulseek in summer of 2004. I grabbed the leak in September shortly after getting wind of it. How it leaked is honestly none of our concern, but the concern of the band and leaker alone. All we can come up with on how it leaked is purely out of speculation and is pretty useless to worry about anyways.

Every track has tape hiss because the copy that leaked was ripped from a tape. The original source is on the original tape, the tapes they were mixed from, as well as the original storage media BoC was using at the time. Unless BoC decide to finish polishing up and finally release the BoCset of old tunes, we will likely not have further information on the subject. Fingers crossed that they haven't changed their minds completely about making a collection of old tracks to release at some point. From what they've said, they have an absolutely incredible amount of music that they've made. They would perhaps feel obligated to go through a large amount if not all of that old work in order to achieve the idea they're going for with such a collection. They certainly do come across as perfectionist when it comes to their releases, don't they. I'm hoping that is a big part of why it's been taking many years to accomplish and will eventually be completed for you and I to enjoy.

Many attempts at fooling the BoC community have come and gone with claims of having those old tapes. Thankfully, MDG has stepped in to clarify when he's been able to. I'm sure at this point the tapes that are still intact are in good, trustworthy hands.
