I couldn’t disagree more about TH. I’ve just been playing it more and more these days. Listening to it on a good pair of headphones gets me as lost in the layers of the tracks every bit as much as Geogaddi.

Like, I get not liking the aesthetic, but some of the claims I’ve seen (such as in The Needledrop’s 6/10 review) that TH lacks the “detail” of other BoC releases is just plain wrong. There is an immense amount of depth to that album and I’m still hearing new things in it 5 years later.

I dont understand half of what Opothecary is writing and Im not into math but at the same time I dont get why many are so overly sceptical. BOCs music and recordcovers are competly full of subliminals and are insainly detailed so this seems like a typical thing for them to do.

Opothecary isn't into math either. He has stated so himself. For people who are into math everything he posts physically hurts to read.

Opothecary isn't into math either. He has stated so himself. For people who are into math everything he posts physically hurts to read.

Amen to that. I appreciate the work (both physically and creatively) that's gone into each and every BOC release, but the level of detail and production on that album is astonishing, I recently upgraded my studio monitors and have been hearing elements that I didn't even know existed before.

I think what you will find with TH is that, unlike other BoC albums where there is about 50% that reveals its self in the first listen and the other 50% is revealed to you upon repeated listens over the following years, the ratio with TH is much more like 30%:70%. The first couple of listens, there is a lot that you won't hear and gradually over five plus years you begin to hear layers you didn't know existed every few listens.

While I agree to a certain extent, there is a question of boundaries. I am personally sitting on the fence on this one.
We have a camp that seem to be under the impression that BoC are ordinary lads you'd have a drink with down at the pub and others that assume they are on some next-level illuminati subliminal trip and everything they have ever said or done has been a coded message. The truth probably lies somewhere between the two.

Perhaps all of this elaborate planning, this creating of codes and carefully placing them spread over youtube, twitter etc is why it takes so long between each album. That is, 90% of the time is spent creating more work for Opothecary.

I mean its cool and all but gems like Olson or Under the Coke Sign do not have this crazy amount of depth to them but are far more enjoyable to me than Uritual or Collapse.

I also tried listening to Palace Posy many times hoping that it would click with me since its concept or structure supposably is very unique, but I just can't get into that track.
TH has too many of these moments to me where i find myself giving it another try just because BOC produced it. Sorry for going offtopic.

I see what you mean, even though I'm in the 'TH is a masterpiece' camp. For one person it clicks, for another it doesn't and that's the cool thing about subjective experience. Actually the first 10+ or so listens it didn't really click with me either, just a few tracks I sort of liked and certain tracks (especially Jacquard Causeway!) I really disliked at first. But as others said the more I listened to it the more it grew on me. Nowadays I can honestly say that I rate it as highly as Children and Geo. It's a weird thing how that happens, kind of magical in a way.

Harvest wasn't the most challenging album for me to get into though, that award goes to Confield. But once it clicks, it's gold.

Palace posy is just an entire song building up to its climax in my opinion. It's a mostly dull, slow track but that serves to cleanse your musical tastebuds in preparation for the very satisfying climax of the track towards the end.

Reading the early part of this thread is kind of an optimism-killer. People were sure that a new album was imminent in early 2010. Three years later, there was still zero news about it. There WAS a black box that showed up on the BoC website at some point, but it was still more than two years after that before TH was announced.

The social media activity is a sign that they’re working on SOMETHING, but let’s be realistic... it could be a long way out. Like years.

Not to pick on you completely here (and you may well be right) but you're basing all this on one banner image? The most anyone's heard from anyone in the official camp in 6 months a debunking of a fake tune. If Warp have plans they're keeping them quiet and would rather flog cheap plastic sound making machines through Bleep than say anything useful.

Truly we're in the sucking void of non information here.

If anything, I'm happy that I've not just become an embittered husk in the last year I was right about the run up to the actual release though... The early flickers of change were interesting but not any indicator of anything imminent. When the arg happened we *knew* it was happening.

(Watch them release the next album next week and prove me wrong )

I definitely think the whole 5/22 thing is yet another windup - I still personally think it's 6+ months away in my heart of hearts. They're going to still have fun taking the piss between now and then though.

I do kind of wonder about their negotiating tactics with the label - "if you let us wait 5 or 6 years to deliver another release, and comply with our wishes to let us troll our fans for the last couple of those, we'll sign off on you selling a bunch of MHTRTC merch in the meantime"
