P.S. - I am sorry. This discussion feels weirdly heated, but I hear what I hear. There is no confirmation either way, so no one can say anything definitively, I am just of the opinion even isolating sections of the remastered alternative rip and listening through studio quality headphones that getting it to say "Noatak" would be an effort in mental gymnastics. I am guessing that irl Noatak is pronounced "Noah-Tack" Yes?

Possibility. The word Noatak is actually cut and put in the wrong order as in No-ak-a-ta. May be the reason that some people can't hear and others just hear it incorrectly as it may just be those ta and ak reversed and the extra a. Maybe its like the Hi score's thing where one track is spelt different then the album? Maybe the "next" album was supposed to be called "Noakata" instead of Geogaddi!?!?!? But yes that is just a theory.

Seriously someone get that mdg guy here. Or there will be a billion more thread's like this.
this thread is full of shenanigans.

That requires a successful summoning.
Luckily, the moon is full over the UK this evening.

We need to stand in a circle and correctly and precisely recite the number sequence read at the end of Aquarius. Every time "Orange" is heard, a blood orange should be sacrificed and the entire group has to shout "Yeah, that's right!" after each sacrifice. His return has been prophecised for more than a year now. They say that the one to successfully draw him out of hiding is the chosen one, the rightful heir of the Hexagon Sun and the receiver of the Holy Grail, a first generation CD-90 cassette of Play By Numbers.

Do you dare, Flory?
Hahaha a simple boqurant such as yourself couldn't possibly have what it takes to summo...
*MDG appears and we all ghasp*

Flory... Is... The one.

This made me really happy, just thought you might want to know.

Also since everybody else has chimed in at this point, I don't think it's actually saying Noatak anymore because this computer saying Noatak doesn't say it the same way:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41ehGfUP4DA

Jokes aside, I could never really hear the world completely right either; the closest stretch would be a very warped, "Neohhh-uh-talk." Maybe "no-one can talk?" Good point made about Sunshine Recorder containing the phrase "An Eagle in Your Mind," and might I point out that it also contains "A Beautiful Place" as well as the real Eagle in Your Mind containing "I Love You," which is sort of the name of The Color of the Fire before MHtRtC?

Tried messing around with EQ'ing to get a clearer take on it but nothing much came out of that I'm afraid :(

Glad my humor isn't wasted
That Robotic voice video is actually pretty amusing, but yes, there is a way to pronounce Noatak and it isn't really akin to what we hear in the sample in my opinion. Its hard to get a clear isolate of the sample sadly and without MDG stepping in to confirm of deny *ahem, mark, that's your cue* I am sure that it will be the subject of debate for a while. I just honestly don't hear it, am I missing something?

I just believe its just saying Noatak but sampled in such a way so the word is changed into Noakata.
That is my conclusion.

That's fair enough, who's to say that it couldn't be a rearranged version of the word.

See I think it does sound like it says Noatak, but I don't think that means it necessarily IS Noatak. Think about how the track that SAYS "An Eagle in Your Mind" is not the track CALLED "An Eagle In Your Mind"
Adding to the confusion; If you are reffering to Sunshine Recorder, I hear “An Eagle in...” but I never managed to hear ‘...your mind’.

When speech is slowed down and fed through countless effects it begins to sound a bit weird. "An Eagle In Your Mind" being a good example. The vowels don't sound quite right, do they? An Eagle In Your Mooooond.

Just to clarify, the second a in Noatak, in the sample, is pronounced as a long a. For the o, you might have to imagine the Queen saying it. Neeoooataaaaak.

The 'extra syllable' that sounds a bit like a g could easily be interference in the recording, from the other sounds in the track, or a defect in the source itself.

Try altering a sample of speech - slow it way down, change the pitch, distort it - and it probably will sound a bit different.

I'm in the Noatak camp. (Not literally.)

Likewise I'm not saying this track isn't Noatak, as the evidence suggests it may well be. I agree there could be some biased mondegreen going on here.

The important thing to me is that this track is awesome!

Sounds like some Geogaddi runner up to me

If you reverse the sample it sounds like the first letter of the sample (the last letter in reverse) is a 'T'
Also sounds like the last letter of the sample (again the first letter in reverse) sounds like an 'S'

So the original sample could possibly start with a 'T' and end with an 'S', In my mind

Sounds like 'Stars in the let', in reverse, at a push, if I really use my imagination.. Could be rearranged to 'Let in the stars'

Probably not but hey it's more probable than pedal guitar lol

Btw I am listening at 4.13 or thereabouts where there is no bass drum

Ok so remember i wrote that i thought the sample sounded like 'El-ep-is-oth'? Well.. i was googling weird words which sounded similar and i came up with results for an American photographer called Alec Soth who apparently has done photography in Canada and even has a little section on his site named Niagara.. I mean its just a weird coincidence i thought i'd share, I dont think the sample says 'Alec Soth'

'Recently described by the Telegraph as the ‘greatest living photographer of America’s social and geographical landscape’, Alec Soth is widely considered to be one of the world’s foremost documentary photographers' - Google

Will say in relative confidence that it is "Electric Star" - How did you get the sample so clear?

Just a simple EQ in audacity, killed everything below 400hz and everything above about 4000hz give or take, nothing special
