I've mentioned it before, but once you look past this summer as a sweet spot, this "ARG" takes a cool direction:

- Day 822 is September 6th, 2018 (opposite of June 9th)
- Slow This Bird Down is 6:09
- The 822 in the TH artwork came from a photo of a blimp hangar - turn your Seven Forty Seven into a blimp, that's certainly one way to slow a bird down

Add a couple/few months to the above observations for reasons yet unspecified and then maybe we're cooking

I do kind of wonder about their negotiating tactics with the label - "if you let us wait 5 or 6 years to deliver another release, and comply with our wishes to let us troll our fans for the last couple of those, we'll sign off on you selling a bunch of MHTRTC merch in the meantime"
I mean I don't know, but I imagine it's the same kind of thing with Aphex in that they have made so much money off having them on the roster they're given a pretty big leeway to do what they want, when they want. They know whatever they put out, in their own time, is guaranteed to make them a mint. I'm not sure what BoC would do if Warp started pressuring them for releases "right now"... but lets say they did what a lot of artists do and put out a contractual obligation album, only to self release the "real" next album down the line... doesn't make sense for Warp to do that. But they seem pretty chill about letting people do their own thing anyway really, they Are Reasonable People after all.

A *correct* miserable skeptical killjoy

Is that the day before the TH launch? June 10 - June 9.

Sort of, but it's more in line with the song June 9th - or alternately, Sixtyniner. Kind of how June 10th lines up with Sixtyten too

This to be honest. BoC and Aphex have become the figurative jewels in the crown of Warp Records, and as such, I assume they are aware that whatever they release from these artists will generate them revenue to a significant extent regardless of length between releases etc. They probably have far more flexible contracts than some less popular artists on the label, but at first during the MHTRTC era, they were on a standard contract. This is all conjecture, though.

They are definitely in the trifecta of artists on Warp along with RDJ and Autechre where the label needs them more than they need the label. I remember reading that 5 album contract quote many years ago in an interview, likely back in the MHTRTC era.

It sort of makes me wonder if they are hesitant to do any sort of Old Tunes release until they are officially off the hook with Warp...it seems like moreso than AE and RDJ, that contract weighs heavy and is probably holding them back from some things that they'd rather be doing independently if they had the option.

I appreciate that through their perfectionism, it's taken them 20+ years to honor that initial contract...based on what's sitting in their vault, they probably could have been off the hook 10 years ago.

Probably because it’s gonna be another 5 years before we get another album.

I am holding out just enough hope for 5/22 to ensure I’ll still be let down, though.

It's the calm before the storm/easter egg hunt/ARG or whatever happens. I'm not too worried. :P

The most impressive thing BoC could do with their release date is finding a date that Opothecary couldn’t retroactively assign some deep numberwang significance to. This might be impossible.
preparation for a dive.

Random thought: I think what I’d like most would be for BoC to release a visual album in the vein of Animal Collective’s ODDSAC. A feature-length BoC music video with all new music and footage like in the Invocation, Dayvan Cowboy, and RFTD videos? Sign me the fuck up.

They were supposed to be making a movie... back in like 1999. :(

WHat if Tomorrow’s Harvest *is* the movie? We just never found the number code in the music to unlock the stream on the cosecha website... sigh...

Sometimes I think TH is a bit of a piss take. We’re all supposed to go digging into it but really it’s just music with some stuff in it. No grand meaning to be revealed. Its just a record on a rock hurling through space. I honestly wouldn’t put it past them to just make a really complicated joke like that. Also, Opothecary is probably onto this too and everything he posts is fabricated pareidoliac fiction that some of us lap up like thirsty animals in a drought.

Ive come to realize that my own obsessive anticipation with a new BoC release is a problem and I need to just forget about it and assume that it may never come. They may have broken up! I just need to get on with my life and make my own interesting music and stop the idolatry. It would be kind of funny to find out that they were making lots of other great music under a different name. I think at one point they mentioned that they are constantly making music but that only some of it is really suitable for a BoC release. I’d love to hear Mike and Marcus’ progressive ska band some day.

I have it on the late 80s laserdisc reissue, using it as a large novelty coaster at the moment as I didn't really see any use for it.
