When I go months and months without anything really great happening I know it's generally time to work on skills instead. So I pick up an instrument. In my case I tend to play guitar and recently started learning the bass. I've been working 50 hours a week since Sept and have been having some other issues that have put a damper on creativity. I figure it's a good time to practice instead of noodling. If I'm noodling I can get something that sounds good, when I practice I tend to sound shit because I'm trying to learn something.

I have no fucking clue why that beat works, it doesn't make any sense to me because I don't know my rythm theory very well, this is probably me accidentally doing compound times or stuff like that, I keep analysing all of it and I still cannot figure out why this still sounds correct. It shouldn't

Anyway, enjoy:

My music alias is now "Synths Whine And Cheese".
The beat sounds like it fits a sort of latin/world trope in percussion, where the bass drum (or a low tom) strikes on every 1 in each 4/4 measure, and a high tom or some other percussion sound changes from 4 to 3 every measure, like this:
(Bassdrum: X, 2nd perc: O)
X - - O X - O - X - - O X - O -
It has a very unique swing that stands out in a sea of other 4/4 rhythms, but it works and you used it well. I can also tell there's just a slight bit of misalignment with the hats, but it's nothing too extreme and it works as well.
Time to reinvent myself.

Love the sounds in your track 747music. Nice to hear something a bit darker!

This is a bit rough around the edges but I have just started it today. I've tried to make something with a bit more space in the arrangement for once. I really should learn how to embed the soundcloud player as well if anybody cares to give me a hint?!

I finished a record called 'Janus' last year but it has just been released on vinyl as well.

Its that time of the month again!!

oh, this thread only had 2 post since last month :(

Anyway, this month's upload is my favorite so far I poored my heart into it and ACTUALLY learned what a chord progression is and used it on purpose.
(Only ever probably did those by accident before)

This is a I to III in B flat aeolian, sounds nice and esoteric, take a load of this:

TFB convinced me after mentioning how the unmastered, unfinished bits/outtake version of my drone record sums up well a lot of the frustration and pain I've been feeling lately, so I think I've finally come to terms with just releasing that one as-is soon. I don't care if it's good or not. I don't care that it uses the Twin Peaks atomic bomb countdown which might not have been sampled yet as an opener to a record knowing it may not do that sample justice.

I was looking for people who play strings maybe willing to help me with one track though beforehand as well as reshaping a section as there's a new piece of music I need to record a little different than what was meant to go in there stemming from a whole bunch of absurdity.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

Went paranoid over a ridiculous pattern on my R-100 last night where the syncopation was such that a single loop made Little by Little by Radiohead sound straightforward in comparison.

Finally bought a bass and've been obsessed w/ it ... I formerly lived with a housemate who let me use hers (the house in which I started recording as a solo project), and since I moved a year back I haven't had bass access. No longer a problem.

Finished this song, TownCrier:

I've been interested in fucking w/ time sigs lately -- this one does not use the same time signature two measures in a row, but alternates between 3/4, 4/4, and 5/4 in different patterns depending on the part of the song.

The lyrics are somewhat inspired by Johnny Got His Gun, which is a top three novel for me.
"Fall in love with some activity, and do it! Nobody ever figures out what life is all about, and it doesn't matter. Explore the world. Nearly everything is really interesting if you go into it deeply enough." - Richard P. Feynman
