A sleuthy youtube commenter pointed out this similarity of the iconic Courage antagonist's theme song and Seven Forty Seven:
Katz' Theme (listen for the hi hats):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY2KnW19Tls
Seven Forty Seven (if you haven't heard it):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euLPaggvpkk
The episode of Courage this was in was S01E11, in 1999. Earliest known use of that hi hat sound and pattern is 2002 on their old website loops.
Clearly the exact same sounds, and i would argue a sample.
I'm wondering who sampled who:
#1. Courage episode predates the flash website BUT
#2. Courage's 1999 episode predates the BoC website and could have had access to unreleased bits (seems less likely)
#3. But at the website loops in the source code were (i assume) downloadable as separate layers, which isolate each element
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNYLmeAuocA at 0:29 (so you can hear just that drum track better) and boc could have easily isolated those hats and added the little kicks
OR did they both sampled the same source?
OR is it not even a sample and not just the same drum machine?

Sounds like the CR-78 to me.
Re: 5d/Seven Forty Seven And Katz Theme Courage The Cowardly
Not to be rude but we as fans put too much thought into the mystique of what people like BoC and Aphex do and give them far too much credit. The reality is always far simpler. As the chap above says, it's simply a CR78 standard drum machine
You could feel the bullshit

Its just a simple drum loop spliced then looped again.Geogandhi wrote:Not to be rude but we as fans put too much thought into the mystique of what people like BoC and Aphex do and give them far too much credit. this thread is full of shenanigans.

regardless, that track from courage the cowardly dog is pretty damn nice

Between us, regardless of whether this is related, I always had an underlying feeling that Hexagon Sun were at least somewhat involved in Cartoon Network's children's programming in the latter part of the '90s. There are certain aesthetic fingerprints there.

We just had a thread talking about how Seven Forty Seven sounded like Lush's Never Never.
There's nothing new under the sun

Sample sources are discovered all of the time, though.Opothecary wrote:We just had a thread talking about how Seven Forty Seven sounded like Lush's Never Never.

The Katz theme song just seems to be using the same analog drum machine with some fairly standard beats, but it is good to point it out anyway.
