Man with a Movie Camera - Dziga Vertov / 1929 (Give it 5 min

Post by shelf »

"Part documentary and part cinematic art, this film follows a city in the 1920s Soviet Union throughout the day, from morning to night. Directed by Dziga Vertov, with a variety of complex and innovative camera shots, the film depicts scenes of ordinary daily life in Russia. Vertov celebrates the modernity of the city, with its vast buildings, dense population and bustling industries. While there are no titles or narration, Vertov still naturally conveys the marvels of the modern city." - google

This is a very interestingly intimate look into the style and culture and it's people during this time not so long ago. it's quite fascinating to take in.

We watched that in a 3rd Cinema course I took in college and I was blown away by it then, and it still amazes me today. Definitely recommend.

I've been itching to watch this since I first found out that this film is what inspired Man with a Movie Camera by Biosphere.

It's about time I get around to watching it.

Thanks for posting this!

Love this movie! I also watched it in a film class. We did a lot of analysis of how it served as Soviet propaganda.
