Howdy all,

It’s Thursday, and because there is a ‘corporate agreement’ that I don’t understand in place between Adobe and the co. I’m working for, I can share with you my amazing/shit Boards of Canada/regular guy story!

Galway, Ireland is a well-known haven for artistic/krusty sorts from all over Ireland and abroad. It hosts a multitudinous range of threadbare boozers, scuzzy clubs and shops/markets selling weird and wonderful nick-nacks of all shapes and sizes. But it also boasts the beautiful rolling countryside of Connemara which is steeped in mysticism and the subject of much traditional folklore. This formidable landscape is also a popular destination for hiking enthusiasts from all over the world.

I worked in Galway town centre from 2008 – 2014. Our office was located just a few minutes from the beach, Salthill promenade and more broadly, the connecting route to Connemara.

In the summer of 2013, a couple of weeks after TH had been released, I left work on a typically uneventful but sunny weekday and made my way up to Joyce’s Supermarket on Father Griffin Road.

While queuing at the checkout, half day-dreaming, I noticed a guy packing his shopping at the register opposite me. He was wearing a red beanie. Not wine or maroon, but a primary red. While I pondered where I had seen someone with a red beanie before, and continuing to gawk, I noticed he was in full hiking gear – all black – with all the trinkets needed to scale even the most unforgiving bastard of a mountain.

At that moment, he looked at me. I was pinned to the spot.

“Marcus?...”

I averted my gaze.

When I raised my eyes again, he was gone.

In high school, I swear I once saw Mike and Marcus cleaning carpets professionally for Sears Canada. But I was doing heavy amounts of psychedelics back then. Not likely they came back to Canada to clean carpets in between Geogaddi and TCH.

Grabbing a few items before a hike in Ireland seems far more likely though.

I'm 99.9% sure i saw Mike in a chippy in St. Andrew's, Fife a couple years ago. Dressed in outdoor gear with a group of guys similarly dressed. He definitely caught me staring at him. Not at all unlikely too considering St. Andrews is a nice place to go for a chippy and its not far from Edinburgh. Wish i'd have said something to him but a negative reaction would have left me red faced in the middle of a busy chippy.
