The NTS tracklist seems to be an almost direct copy from the latest tracklists we have compiled here and others have added to on Reddit.
It doesn't confirm anything really.
I don't think their list fills any of the blanks or adds anything we don't already have?

Call me nuts but it sounds to me like they recreated the synth chords at the start of the Slave to the Rhythm / Just an Illusion / Aquarius bit, and I have my suspicions on the string build up as well. I know that album and its remixes to bits and I can’t find where they would have cleanly extracted the samples from.

I think that just lends credence to the fact that there are some darn fine researchers here and in the BoC community generally.outhudd wrote:The NTS tracklist seems to be an almost direct copy from the latest tracklists we have compiled here and others have added to on Reddit.

I would imagine that for legal reasons, NTS and certainly Warp will have a comprehensive enough list of every track used. What is now available on the NTS site should be a complete list, unless anyone can identify any sample sources to the contrary that show their list is incomplete. As their list is complete, we now know that many of the interludes and short tracks interspersing the named ones are quite possibly BoC's own creations. That is why having a list from the source is relatively important as we know that a lack of a name isn't coming from lack of someone having identified it yet.

I often have this sentiment about certain pieces, and this is certainly no exception.immortaljellyfish wrote:Call me nuts but it sounds to me like they recreated the synth chords at the start of the Slave to the Rhythm / Just an Illusion / Aquarius bit, and I have my suspicions on the string build up as well. We know, almost for a fact, that they either have access to the mulitracks or have painstakingly recreated every nuanced detail of the introductory rhythm and bass portion of Aquarius from Hair. This is because in the Warp10 live performance, individual sections of the percussion start long before the bass.
People who have earned the respect of other musicians to the level that BoC have will likely have a much easier time acquiring copies of multitracked source tapes, but I think I veer more towards recreation unless they have a futuristic audio isolation tool stolen from a crashed UFO wreckage out in the pentlands.

If that's the case then they truly are arts and crafts supermasters. It makes me happy to think that they're having fun recreating their favourite tunes and sounds.Valotonin wrote:…but I think I veer more towards recreation…

Not for radio. NTS wouldn't have a complete tracklist. Very often they get guest DJs into their radio shows ("Do You" breakfast show every morning) and the guests play whatever records they have, very often the host won't know the tracks, sometimes they will, but there is definitely no legal requirement to license tracks for a radio broadcast.
Totally different case of course if they were to ever sell this mix.

What if they are updating their list based on fans discoveries. Odd that they wouldn’t list that 80s post punk tune.

I strongly suspect several of the unlabeled tracks are original BoC, such as the bit right after the Heldon track and the ambient piece around 1 hr 52m with tape hiss.

Is there any way to download the full thing?

also: is it worth mentioning that the ambient track at 25:20 to 26:00 which sounds a bit like ataronchronon has the chord progression of olson in reverse? in this sense it sounds a bit like under the coke sign

I very nearly included this in the original post, but I suspected that it would be claimed they were updating their list in reaction to findings by fans. That is a valid observation to make given the lack of evidence either way, but I don't particularly agree.
In this instance they don't have to pay for sample clearance, of course, that isn't what I was driving at. The laws applying to internet radio are generally different particularly as no advertisements were run. They will have a record, kept primarily for legal reasons, of the tracks that were broadcast. To not do so would be unprofessional.
NTS would genuinely have a copy of all tracks used. Not because they would have to clear each individual one on the mixtape for clearance, but it is both good practice and they will require it just in case any legal misunderstanding does occur.

Weirdly it only streams for me, not downloading. Because I love to turn off my wi-fi before going to sleep. Anyway, thanks.

Internet radio stations are also required to pay royalties on tracks even if they have someone on playing their personal mixtape unless they have purchased a blanket license.

You know the "I'm Listening" vocal sample from Aquarius and used in the Societas X Tape? Has anyone ever figured out what that's from? I've never seen a source for that listed anywhere and BOC have used it in so many places. Makes me wonder if it's an original creation.
