Ilkae

Post by PresidentSquidward »

A friend of mine is really into this IDM/Ambient act and she recced me their albums a few months back. I enjoy Ilkae. They're mostly known for their first record, Pistachio Island (which is still my favorite record from them I've heard so far, but other albums such as Stained Glass Pinata and Light Industry are solid. Still need to hear their 2010's output that isn't their early material).

Aaron Munson sure crafts a sound of his own, some of the melodies he makes under Ilkae, he also has a lot of heavier, complex shit going on too that I enjoy. Ilkae used to be a duo until around 2004, Krystian Lubiszewski left the project, so since then Aaron has used Ilkae as a solo project They're definitely an obscure IDM act, but one worth your attention and time. If you want to see their early material before their first record Pistachio Island, check out 2013's Primer, featuring a lot of longer, awesome tracks throughout.

Here's Ilkae's Bandcamp, featuring their entire discography. Ilkae's around on streaming platforms too but not everything unfortunately, just most of the albums and some eps. https://ilkae.bandcamp.com/

I'll be surprised if someone else knows who they are haha. Also surprised by the fact that they have quite a few ratings on Rateyourmusic.

Woo thanks for the bonus forum attention.
Plaid dropped a track from my latest LP recently on their BBC6 mix: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0007582

Boc fans might enjoy these tracks from my back catalog:

As a major Plaid fan I was very excited to see them use one of your tracks! Metal Rooster Mask is KILLER! Still have a few more albums/eps before I get to Formal Format! Super excited. Great stuff, cheers :)

I thoroughly love Ilkae!!! I know him/them well and have been a fan for quite a while. Pistachio Island is indeed a classic. It's been a very long time since I had a listen which is a shame. Thanks for the heads up!

By the way I've been following both these guys ever since the tracker/demo scene days when they were known as Vexion (Aaron) and Daze (Krystian). They were two of my favourite trackers back in the day! Quite a few of the Pistachio Island tracks are from that time.
