Squarepusher - Be Up A Hello

Post by Mikey »

I rarely listen to Squarepusher stuff anymore but thought I'd give the new album a spin. Sounds more like Aphex Twin if you ask me. Getting heavy Drukqs vibes.

I only listened to the 3 tracks that were released prior to the album release, but those are certainly in line with his latest WARP 30 NTS mix, holy fck that was insanely good! Haven't listened to the album yet, but the pre-release tracks are fucking ace. Especially Terminal Slam including the video!

I have high hopes for the whole package. It's supposed to be a throwback to his early analog career phase so your comment makes perfect sense Mikey.

Did you like it ? You didn't say anything about it other then the vibes you got from it ;) Just curious.

Yeah it's pretty good. I really like that circa 2000 Warp sound. Speedcrank is mental, makes me want to see him perform the album live. Last time I seen Tom live was about 2008, time flies!

Squarepusher is a bit too technical for my taste. I dig his last videoclip, really cool. really ressembling that aphextwin clip.

Just got to listening the whole thing twice, love it! Terminal Slam and Mekrev Bass are something else! And I suspect this will grow on me more and more. Lovely stuff! First 2 tracks are the most difficult for me atm, but only heard them twice so.

I had the chance to see him live a few years back in Amsterdam but he was playing at the same time as Clark I think and went to the latter (which I didn't regret, that was an absolute killer set he played). I'm actually thinking about buying a ticket when he is playing In NL or Belgium this spring. Will be insane to hear this stuff live I reckon!

Yeah his stuff is pretty technical, hit or miss for most people I guess. The video reminded me of that T69 collapse track yeah!

How does the sound fare on vinyl? I like the album but since they crammed almost 50 minutes of music on a single disc, I am doubtftul about the overall quality.

Very much looking forward to catching Squarepusher at the BlueDot festival this summer, provided we aren't all dead, quarantined or fighting rabid dogs for the last rib from a diseased corpse by then.

Aah cool you're seeing him live! I'll catch him playing in May for the first time, provided... well you know ;)

Yeah BlueDot looks superb this year. Bjork (lifetime ambition to see her), Squarepusher, Tangerine Dream, Beak>, 808 State, Ed O'Brien, Roisin Murphy, Spiritualised, plus Adam Buxton, Phil Jupitus, Tim Peake, Jess Phillips, Chris Linott. Really hoping it goes ahead!

Yeah but they added Ulrich Schnauss so I'll forgive them.

I play this track over and over again, it's just so compelling and gorgeous! I need a 10 hour version or something...
