Tomorrow's Harvest and Corona Virus

So my friend I were driving to NYC in the morning and the sun was at the right position that it made the buildings in the horizon look like the Tomorrow's Harvest cover. As we all know it's heavily quarantined now. It made me want to make a thread about this. Do you guys think that this was the event that BOC were predicting in Tomorrow's Harvest? There are a few clues in their interviews that hint at this:

"Without blowing it all for the listeners, there’s a core to it about an apparently irreversible vector we’re already on as a species. The world population has doubled in my lifetime. If you really let that fact sink in, you start to realize why it is that in so much of popular culture, in books and movies and TV, we’re fantasizing about a depopulated world in one way or another. "It's not post-apocalyptic so much as it is about an inevitable stage that lies in front of us. But it's better if listeners find the narrative themselves, in the titles and the sounds."

"In a way we're really celebrating an idea of collapse rather than resisting it."

I've heard conspiracy theories about the Corona virus being created for population control but it quickly got out of hand. The brothers seem to be concerned with overpopulation but also what happens as a result of it. The virus spreads at an alarming rate and might be because there are simply too many people.

As for track titles, I think Sick Times seems to tie into this really well, but maybe you will see another parallel in another song title.


Also, just a disclaimer, I may be reaching (for the dead) here, but this is all done for fun. I'm not really a tinfoil hat conspiracy person, more just someone trying to kill time while they're trapped in their house because of this virus.

BoC are not some nostradamus types or soothsayers. You could attribute their generic TH theme to a thousand scenarios over the course of humanity. But yeah, it does tie in to the overall them of what is happening now. BUT, at the end of the day, it's a flu type virus and we will all be fine. Still, it's really harsh that people ARE dying and we can't be flippant about that.
You could come up with loads of conspiracy angles in why this is happening and none would surprise me if they were true. I don't have a lot of trust in humans at the moment and i'm definitely not a tin foil twat type.

It seems to me most "people of conscience" know things're turning quite dark again (climate change, rise of authoritarianism, encroachment of invasive technology, kleptocracy, commodification of all things [lack of sacredness], lack of community focus, etc. etc. etc.) and we're all trying to figure out what exactly is going on.
What caused this? How do we fix it? Can we fix it? Is there something about human nature that makes this all grow? But at the end of it all: a major, difficult paradigm shift is happening in how we see ourselves as a species (this's always happening, of course, but I think we're in a particularly ripe time [by ripe I mean "rotting" {is this just some form of generational narcissism?}]).

I see Tomorrow's Harvest as BoC's "Major, difficult paradigm shift in how we see ourselves as a species" album -- they seem to me to be people of conscience who are willing to go deep. So the art they create, of course, would reflect that depth.

While it may be easy to attribute TH to COVID-19 in particular, you could also see Trump's inauguration (or Duterte's, or the presence of Matteo Salvini, or Viktor Orbán, or [insert contemporary fascist leader here]) as a TH moment.

It's all part of a larger collapse that is inextricably tied to the desecration of the environment, which (if you look @ the picture cards included in TH) it seems like the theme is environmental collapse with a consequent militaristic post-civilization existence.

I think I'm just playing along with them because they were acting like it in the interview. There was a total change in their demeanor where they believed something was happening and they were predicting it.

But yeah, I totally agree that there wasn't a specific thing they were going for. I think they generally just thought our society was going to hell and they wanted nothing to do with it.

I always think it's funny to imagine that after the whole Tomorrow's Harvest event in 2013 that they just decided to take shelter in their bunker from this hypothetical event and never come out again.

If we continue going this "BOC predicts the end" route, I guess the virus combined with the politics of this time fits into a larger collapse.

Personally, I'm really not a fan of their attitude in these interviews because I'm an optimist and want to keep living, but in 2013, you can see how their negativity towards the future was right in some ways.

but I think you could say they 'predicted' coronavirus in a sense in that societal decay in all forms was imminent. I don't think Coronavirus is the turning point though. I think it's been stewing for a few years and pent up for a long time

yeah, agree, TH captures a blanket feeling that most of us can see. Forget the wanky word "woke" I think even normal people feel it. We are fucked and fucking the world as we go purely from our own greed and the wrong minds are getting their voices heard more because of corruption and power. There are a large number of generic brains that have no idea and clutter themselves up with seratonin fuelled internet fame, body issues and material things, but it will always be this way.
TH is a generic response to the world we live in packaged in a vague apocolyptic mood.

This basically. Decline has been happening for a long time, but technology amplified unconscious behavior and actions enormously and in this day and age we live in right now we reap what has been sown. Though now more than ever, people are slowly waking up to who they really are. I see this everywhere around me. Not all is lost, but we together as the collective human Being have to wake the fuck up!

I like these quotes by Eckhart Tolle on the subject.

“Humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die. … If the structures of the human mind remain unchanged, we will always end up re-creating the same world, the same evils, the same dysfunction.”

This is the point where the evolution of consciousness, the awakening of humanity, is no longer a luxury. The effects of the dysfunctional ego are now being amplified by technology. What we are doing to ourselves, to our fellow human beings, and to the planet is becoming more and more destructive and devastating.

So maybe Saturn Pluto did not find a better way to change the whole functioning of the society well and especially quickly, maybe triggered the virus even at the cost of some (possibly minimum) victims and trying to look positively - Jupiter Mars is going to help, Saturn will enter visionary Aquarius for a while, in short it could mean shaping something new on the horizon, somehow clearer direction of a better society, although it will probably fluctuate for some time... but the world could finally start to cooperate seriously in its own interest, with intrigues and tricks now sideways (sometimes in the past triggered by wars, now the virus)... (even if we stayed flat with "feet on the ground", it would have to be a big coincidence that just in January there was a precise conjunction of the two planets and the virus has been spreading since then, or even in December something and still lasting conjunction at 5 degrees... and notice that it's not just about traveling and caution, it interferes with many spheres)

Regarding numbers - I wouldn't overestimate math in this case, 7-8 billion people to 5000 deaths, when what BOC see as the solution is "reduce the number of human beings"... I personally hope there IS another solution (in a way of deep transformation through the virus for example) which won't be that drastic at the end... (my hope is also BOC had the idea of making TH and its theme right after TCH since 2005, so it isn't so deadly tied to as they called it more nihilistic approach over the years)

What decline? Guys, we have never been more developed, healthy and better in general terms than in these past 50 years. I just cannot think of a better time in History than Modern Times. Greed has always existed and if people of the past didn't suffer climate change or invasive technology it was just because they didn't have the technology to produce it. They did suffer many other horrible things that we don't in the 1st World in modern times, though.

it is kind of ridiculous to see people talking about "dark times", especially right now, when the internet lets you post whatever and you have the right to "express yourself". Of course we can improve, but we are way better than 200 years ago. Did you guys know that 600 years ago people would think that society was collapsing too? I can't talk about everyone else but I did this post for fun (as much fun as you can actually have while people are sick and dying that is). It was just entertaining to match up the bros' interview quotes with what's currently happening.

If anything, they are the ones being melodramatic in their interviews. I never liked the whole misanthropic tone they had in TH era interviews especially when they've got such a nice fanbase. Life can't be so bad when you could drop a single tomorrow and we'd all eat it up. WIsh I was that lucky/talented.

It's also true to say that every generation fears it will be the last, or worries for the future if it's children. On the other hand, one day a prediction about the end of the world will be correct
Looking at this through my own selfish and highly localised lens, I have a father and other friends and relatives that are a prime candidate to be bumped off by this thing (age, illness) and a government seemingly happy to let us all catch it if it means they get to knock some elderly and infirm off the bottom line come the next budget. I also have a young daughter in a school where, like most others, diseases spread like wildfire.

Let's never forget that while the world is a big place, individual lives matter and pain and suffering are real and can either be reduced or increased depending upon our actions and the actions of those we choose to represent us.

With that in mind, please stay safe and well everyone. I hope none of you lose anyone close to you as a result of this thing.

Well, i'd say that in the UK and US there has been a real backwards step in Humanity in very recent years. Of course many people are more forward thinking and empathetic than ever but media, social media and the access to anything has desensitised many people to the value of life. Also the main thing is that with current political powers ligitimising old ways of thinking meaning that racism and homophobia is back into the fore whereas it was, at least in the UK an old fashioned dying way of thought for most people that was quietly behind closed doors on the whole.

First of all this post is not aimed at you personally, just in general.

Let me say that I understand what you're saying and that I partly agree with it, I do. Yes, on the one hand we do have it better than 50 years ago. We have much better healthcare, we live in the most peaceful time ever (only counting wars and conflict in the world), we are much more wealthy, we have access to infinite information, technological progress has increased tremendously, etc. Basically we have everything we want, but for many it is never enough and we want more, better, bigger. From my point of view all these things do not ever equate to what is most important in life, peace and happiness.

Most people always look forward to the next thing. Most people are never truly at ease and at peace, so they start creating conflict and go to war with themselves (their emotions and thoughts) and therefore with others. So many people worldwide suffer from all kinds of mental or physical illnesses/diseases, it's truly horrific how we treat and mostly ignore our bodies. There are still many parts in the word with famine, racism is still happening across the globe. There is so much despair, conflict between groups of people or conflict in the individual person. We still treat animals and nature as if they were a means to an end, desensitized to it because we lost touch with ourselves in the first place. I can go on but I don't think it's necessary.

I'm not trying to paint a particularly dark picture here, but if you open your eyes it is easy to see what is really going on. 50 years ago we were behind maybe on the superficial level, but nothing really changed that much if you look closely. We haven't been evolving all that much. It's about time we as individuals inquire to who we really are, to be curious to our current experience and to what we feel, what we think. To get in touch with ourselves. Only then true change can happen, not change on the superficial level, but to evolve as humans in consciousness.

As The Beatles sang in a song a long time ago, living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. But ignorance is not bliss in the long run, far from it.

On a more positive note, peace and contentment are so totally accessible, 24/7 everywhere in the world. It's actually the most accessible experience there is, right here right now. It's not about adding anything to yourself, just the clear seeing of the nature of who you are. Its ever-present being aware of your current experience, whatever that may be. And seeing that all is well and that there are no problems ultimately. The world is going to be a better place when more and more people start exploring that space and practicing self-inquiry, which I think is certainly happening because more and more people start opening up due to their suffering. I know this is what happened to me at least.
