To a point I agree with The Spaniard's sentiment. Social media gives the perfect platform for rumours and fear to spread and I'm as guilty as the next person of buying into that.

It's also true to say that every generation fears it will be the last, or worries for the future if it's children. On the other hand, one day a prediction about the end of the world will be correct
Looking at this through my own selfish and highly localised lens, I have a father and other friends and relatives that are a prime candidate to be bumped off by this thing (age, illness) and a government seemingly happy to let us all catch it if it means they get to knock some elderly and infirm off the bottom line come the next budget. I also have a young daughter in a school where, like most others, diseases spread like wildfire.

Let's never forget that while the world is a big place, individual lives matter and pain and suffering are real and can either be reduced or increased depending upon our actions and the actions of those we choose to represent us.

With that in mind, please stay safe and well everyone. I hope none of you lose anyone close to you as a result of this thing.

Honestly, in the US over here, its very touching that our heavily polarized parties came together to pass bills. Especially because they've been constantly at each others throats for the last decade. The little faith I've had in politics (I straddle the fence completely) over here increased a small bit.

I really hope that people can come together and fight this. There was a message that spoke to me on Societas Tape from Colourbox's Tarantula about when we're backed into a corner, the tables will turn. I almost like to think that this might be the case and we might work together as people to turn the tables.

I'm kind of hoping too, that maybe once this is all over, we might get a hopeful for the future LP from BOC someday.

My electronics final was cancelled. I ended up passing the course with a B+ all because of this mess. It is pretty weird out there right now.

Someone mentioned celebrating collapse earlier in this thread. That is something to think about. Everything has both positives and negatives. Changes don't come from doing the same things over and over. They come from shake-ups. This is a pretty solid shake-up. Maybe we will all learn something positive from this. I hope.

It seemed like humanity was losing the plot for the last decade or so. Shit was getting pretty nuts. There was no time to breathe or relax while everything around us evolved and technologically advanced at break-neck speed. Maybe this is how we finally tell ourselves to calm the fuck down, take a break, and relax for a few days. I think we collectively need that.

One other positive I can think of here. It has probably not been this clean out there in years!

If you take the right substances and really study this world hard, then you can genuinely imagine what's to come. It's a practise called shamanism. It's ok. Aside from the fever and the light head, I haven't really experienced anything related to this virus or anything serious either. But it is pretty shocking waking up with it.

First of all this post is not aimed at you personally, just in general.

Let me say that I understand what you're saying and that I partly agree with it, I do. Yes, on the one hand we do have it better than 50 years ago. We have much better healthcare, we live in the most peaceful time ever (only counting wars and conflict in the world), we are much more wealthy, we have access to infinite information, technological progress has increased tremendously, etc. Basically we have everything we want, but for many it is never enough and we want more, better, bigger. From my point of view all these things do not ever equate to what is most important in life, peace and happiness.

Most people always look forward to the next thing. Most people are never truly at ease and at peace, so they start creating conflict and go to war with themselves (their emotions and thoughts) and therefore with others. So many people worldwide suffer from all kinds of mental or physical illnesses/diseases, it's truly horrific how we treat and mostly ignore our bodies. There are still many parts in the word with famine, racism is still happening across the globe. There is so much despair, conflict between groups of people or conflict in the individual person. We still treat animals and nature as if they were a means to an end, desensitized to it because we lost touch with ourselves in the first place. I can go on but I don't think it's necessary.

I'm not trying to paint a particularly dark picture here, but if you open your eyes it is easy to see what is really going on. 50 years ago we were behind maybe on the superficial level, but nothing really changed that much if you look closely. We haven't been evolving all that much. It's about time we as individuals inquire to who we really are, to be curious to our current experience and to what we feel, what we think. To get in touch with ourselves. Only then true change can happen, not change on the superficial level, but to evolve as humans in consciousness.

As The Beatles sang in a song a long time ago, living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. But ignorance is not bliss in the long run, far from it.

We have evolved a ton in the past 50 years. Just to mention some of our recent big achievements as a whole: self awareness regarding nature; the "ISMS" ecologism (vegetarianism, veganism), feminism, fight against racism, study of colonialism, support to gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, minorities, etc. Quite a big achievement, if you ask me. Fifty years ago gaymen were married with children. We have never been better.

By the way, you say the most important things in life are peace and hapiness. Not really! Only people that have food to eat or are healthy claim that peace and hapiness are the most important things.
Unfortunately, the middle class seems depressed. Well, nobody prevents y'all to go and visit the countryside to find peace. I am quite happy, and I dont like people blaming society because they just cannot find hapiness. Anybody here is sad? Well... go find a girlfriend, go play videogames, go play soccer, go hiking, go jogging, go play volleyball... So many things to do! Children have the right to Music.

Funny that I was grading papers a few minutes ago about a Spanish writer: Fray Luis de León, who, in the 16th Century, claims some of the things you and Boards of Canada say: life in the country is better and more peaceful than in the city. Well, if The Bros were the sons of farmers they would know this is not true. And the same applies to y'all. Life in the countryside is hard, fellas!

I wanted to clarify that I don't think we are perfect and of course we have a lot to improve, but I dont like that The Bros kind of sell false statements and rudimental generalizations that are percieved by the fans as whoa! forecasts and predictions! I think it is very low on The Bros to be that way. Societies have always grown and at some point have reached a point of decadence or decline. That is the way it has always gone. And again, we are way better than 50 years ago and not only in mechanical and technological terms but also in humanistic terms. The Bros can sell you otherwise but they aren't right. They just like to sell you drama because they know it sells well.

Now I go to the United States and I am considered an immigrant from who knows where, and a US citizen whose dad emmigrated from Germany 50 years ago thinks he belongs to that land more than me. Lol.

So like Bill Cosby, Savile and R Kelly telling us what they were up to in their art, interviews, persona that means whatever you feel Tomorrow's Harvest signifies, BoC did it. So Hexagon sun in musical downtime doubles as a chemical lab and they unleashed this mess as a means to what? take over the world or teach us all a lesson?
If I could do it, I would too but maybe not at the expense of the average folk.
I think if I had some sort of power to do something to sort us greedy cunts out i'd probably want to be able to hack anything so I would hold up the internet, strip everyones bank account that had more than 50k (£ I guess) and hold it to ransom until people changed. So every account would have 50k or less, enough for normal people to live on but so little that it would cause massive trauma to people of power. I'd also put money in accounts of people living day to day that may lose their jobs due to taking away money from corporations etc.
If I don't see a change in people of power and business for the good and benefit to people and the world then they see their money disappear to help others and they will have no access to any money unless they have physical money hidden under their bed etc so they will feel what it's like to not have money for the rest of their days. This would go for everyone so even the smallest of businessman would have to prove themselves to be doing better. Of course i'd have to have a secondary power so that I can keep tabs on everyone in such a small amount of time. Plot holes within plot holes but oh well ha.

I think it's kinda funny what happens when we haven't heard from the band in seven years and a crisis like this happens. I certainly wouldn't have started this thread otherwise.

But honestly, I think it's healthy to get these ruminations about the world out in this thread. I have a good feeling that BOC wanted us to think about the state of the world with Tomorrow's Harvest. And I certainly feel those statements are all more relevant now than they were in 2013.

My thoughts on the world at large: A lot of people are assholes and the world is fundamentally fucked up, but try to have fun and enjoy your life as much you can. Just enjoy the little things like entertainment, good music, art, food etc. In this day and age, hedonism is the only way to get by.

A good amount of people that have had the virus are recovering or totally recovered, so there is still hope, especially if you are

1) Isolated
2) Under 45

So hopefully we are doing 1) and we are still "young" enough.

Now, I don't how many marriages will survive the crisis.

But isn't everything always ending and beginning?
I do believe we'll (as a consequence of COVID) experience unprecedented social/political/intellectual change like we've not yet seen in our lifetime (I'm 26 and writing "our lifetime" as if we're generational siblings but who knows??).
And that's an "end" in and of itself.
